I see where he's coming from about the MPG. Its really hard to give a fair figure unless you've put on a ton of kms and averaged out a few tanks. Browsing this forum I see some people averaging 40+ mpg and others barely cracking 30 mpg. Part of it is gas, driving habits, climate, driving distance etc.

Say he says its 35mpg on the highway, if its worst than that, everyone complains about false figures.

Regardless, I think anyone installing this kit will be ditching the tires and there goes a big chunk of MPG anyway but I'm curious about the original question too.
You have to realize who you're dealing with here. I think everyone understood what you were saying, except for Visconti. This is an extremely typical, and expected response from him.

I completely agree! I am REALLY looking forward to your kit. I'm hopefully optimistic that some of the other tuners (ie: FA20Club/Perrin/others) jump in and have something to offer as well.

No ill will for sure. To ask that we be urbane on an internet forum? That's asking for alot! It's too easy for people to be asshats online. I think we're all just eager for some real numbers already so we can start planning/dreaming about the direction we'll be taking our car.

We, as intelligent individuals, can choose to be. I can totally sympathize regarding the wait. But it shall be worth it, and won't be much longer...

There are way too many variables to have a reliable answer. That's why there's a whole standard for comparable results.

If you can keep it out of boost, the difference would be negligable, but we all know that's not going to happen. Boost is addictive.

Edit for explanation... If it's anything like the MP-90 on my Mustang, there is a bypass valve that releases boost pressure when you're not "on it". When the actuator sees 0 manifold vacuum, that valve closes, and bam! you have boost. Under cruise conditions at light throttle, there is plenty of manifold vacuum (typically 10-20 in.Hg), and the bypass valve stays open. In these conditions, you're only using enough power to turn the rotors, not build pressure. It doesn't take much power to turn the free-wheeling rotors, so the impact on fuel economy is minimal.

Good luck keeping your foot out of it with one of these, though. Too fun.

thats interesting.
Is there an option to add such a bypass valve actuator to aftermarket SC kits?

Both roots and screw superchargers are positive displacement and both require bypass valves to prevent too much displacement during idle/general driving. The bypass valves are not necessarily an on/off valve but rather linked via vac/psi reference. The valves merely allow a portion of air flow to literally bypass the rotors in the supercharger housing. Similar to the way a wastegate bypasses the exhaust gases around the turbine of a turbocharger. So yes you could use an aftermarket bypass valve but for the most part they are pretty standard equipment.

i wish someone would just invent a simple "on/off" switch for this added boost like the batmobile
