diss7's TE27 & AE86

Have had a few people asking about some of the other cars I own. Seeing as they are the new 86's father and grandfather, I thought I'd put up some more info. The ke20 is looking like it's sold, pending payment. Which, I needed to do as I never drove it; and now that I'm boosting the ae86 it doesn't have too much purpose. Also I need the garage space for the new 86! None of these cars are my dailys, I have a 2008 Hilux as daily.

I'll put both the ae86 and te27 in the same thread, as I don't really mod the te27.
Actually, I don't really drive the te27 much either. But only because I get too worried about other muppet road users. Take it out maybe once a month at most.

1973 Toyota Corolla 'Trueno' TE27 JDM

Factory 2T-G w/ twin side draft solex carbys, extractors.
Factory T50, disc brakes and braided lines.
Wheels are old school enkei's, not sure of the model.

Future plans are to freshen the engine bay up a bit. Some trumpets on the carbs. Might respray it too, seeing as its 40 years old this year!

Walk around & startup

Video of car running

I was considering turning this into an historic race car a couple of years ago, but its almost a waste to do it. There is only around 4 or 5 in New Zealand and Australia combined that are street driveable. So I figure I'll just hang onto it, drive it every now and then and enjoy it.

Back when I was collecting parts to take my S15 to the next level, alot of thought went into the turbo choice. My S15 was 'full boost spec' which is a setup that sees the stock turbo running about 16psi. With supporting mods, is good for around 200rkw. (Mine dyno'd @ 198) Line 8 (White) is like what my S15 was, my new turbo is Line 1 (Yellow).

Anyway, I wanted a turbo that had no more lag than what I had, but was capable of good power. Looking at this graph, you can see why I chose the Tomei M8270.

Going any bigger than this results in more lag.

Will be interesting to see how the beams head compares, as it should help spool and topend, over an sr20.

I'll get the dyno overlaid over the NA setup, and also my old S14 from years ago that was also 'full boost spec' and was 195rwkw.

It's possibly going to be overkill having this much power in an ae86. I thought my silvias were quick enough, well until they went to the track. The ae would be at least 200kg lighter than a silvia (at a guess)

But, a stock 3sge bottom end is sketchy at 200kw, and seeing as I had the turbo sitting around, might as well rebuild motor and go straight to 300kw. Also, I knew that if I spend the money and set it up for 200kw, I will end up wanting more; so might as well just do it straight away.

This pic really makes me want to go white...

Bought a HKS SSQV blow off valve. That arrived this morning. These have gotten a hell of a lot cheaper than they used to be.

Bought a tube & fin intercooler. 400x300x68 2.5" in/out from PWR. Tested to 80psi. Would never get a cheap intercooler, and when you can get a decent one for <$500, no brainer.

Bought 2 new sets of wheels today. Same style, but 15x8's. Currently running 15x7 ET0 with a 25mm spacer. The 15x8's are ET-8, so can do away with the spacers. I'll probably put the 15x7's aside for the te27 when it arrives in NZ.

Swapped my motor less quads less flywheel & clutch for a standard beams + another box. Basically my motor has the new Toda HG and ARP head stud kit, so seemed stupid to just waste it.

Went into Caraid (engine builders) today and talked to them about what I want done. They're clued up guys and have built a few beams motors now. Dropping motor off there tomorrow, so they can tear it done and get a good look at things.

While that is getting built SURFAB will be doing the following...
Swap front FC brakes for R32 M Spec brakes
Swap rear S13 single pots for R32 2 pots
Install hydrallic handbrake
Rip half cage out and put new full cage in
Surge tank. (Going to talk to NZEFI tomorrow about whether I should go E85/E50, and the setup needed if I do)
Install Pedal box
Remake intake manfiold to lower ITB runner angle, with gained space from b/booster removal
Fabricate new plenum to ITB's. Smaller trumpets to sit inside plenum
Mount I/C where radiator currently sits. Move radiator back.
Fabricate I/C piping
Fabricate exhaust manifold for M8270
Tomei Downpipe to be used.
Replace 2.5" exhaust with 3" exhaust.
Replace 4.3 diff with 3.9.

Both SURFAB and CARAID seem quiet, so should happen fairly quickly.

Fingers crossed for car running by Feb.

Motor is out and @ Caraid being stripped down and inspected. Leaving stock crank in. Replacing pistons, rods, valves, valve springs. Some porting. Leaving stock cams.

They've built a few beams motors, and common weak point is the bores. They had a motor that lasted two seasons as an enduro racer before spitting a bore, this was at 450-500rwhp.

Have decided to build my motor, and setup turbo, fuel etc for 500rwhp, but run it around 400rwhp. THis will be shit loads in the 86, and that will give me a fairly bullet proof setup. Weak point in the whole car will really be the stock altezza box.

Went and talked to Phil @ NZ EFI about E30/pump. His advice was to get it on the dyno, and see how it reacts on 98. If it turns out that getting to 400rwhp requires the timing be pulled back, then he'll go E30. I didn't realise that pulling timing back creates a lot of heat.

Simon @ SURFAB is about to start on the cage. Was only going to have one door bar that went down under the door handle on an angle, in an attempt in saving the entire door card. But after seeing the damage a side on impact can cause, have decided to take this inner door handle off and have a wishbone type bar setup. Will still have the door card, but not the inner handle.

Heres a vid of me at Ruapuna, just before xmas.

Have made some more decisions.

Am going white, inside and out. Toyota Super White 040 to be precise.

Replacing the J160 box with a Z33 6 speed.

Not sure if I mentioned, but am going to semi slicks full time with the boost now. Just went and ordered 16 195/50/15 Achilles 123's.

More gutted bro..

Sound deadening almost all removed.

Cage is getting fab'd up today and tomorrow. Also going to dummy fit 350z box and mod tunnel to suit.

350z box has remote shifter which will put shifter in 86 too far back. Going to modify remote shifter so that it comes up closer to where j160 shifter was; as the location of this was good.

Once cage and tunnel are done, then onto paint prepping. Should get painted mid next week.
