Bluetooth Mic

Trying to find out if i need to buy an aftermarket mic for my headunit or the stock one can work. anyone know how to find the mic's route to the stock HU? I haven't had time to find out by pulling things apart yet. Hoping that someone already has and can save me the trouble and i can get it ordered asap. I'd appreciate it.

Most units come with their own. My Kenwood came with its own mic. The factory unit is amplified and has a nonstandard harness on it. You could potentially rewire it to bypass the mic amplifier but it's easier to just run the cables for the aftermarket one. Mine's mounted to the headliner right behind the factory location and since it's black on black, no one really notices. The installers that did my stereo said they tried putting the aftermarket one in the location of the factory mic but sound was muffled

Glad to know. My HU has an internal mic, but cabin noise makes it really hard to talk to ppl on it. Im gonna take apart the factory one tomorrow and see where its routed thru(unless you know where it leads??), and if the sound quality is decent i'll leave it there. if not, i'll find an inconspicuous area to hide it. Thanks for the advice man.

not sure where specifically the cable runs since i had mine installed at a car audio shop but i know the stock mic is up on the roof by the light switch under the grill.

What i'm actually interested in finding out is what the 2nd grill is for by the steering column...
