I drove auto all my life until I bought this car last month. I'll probably never go back to auto again.

I own MK6 GTI with DSG I love it BUT these are the reasons I don't like it:
-I can't downshift at my own rate because of lack of clutch control.
-I truly hate the rev matching (which you can't turn off) simply because the compression is so soft that the car doesn't descelerate like a normal down shift should.
-If I need to step on it out of an intersection or something, tires spin like crazy. once again, lack of control due to lack of clutch.

The DSG is amazing but I keep wishing I had a manual.

Auto trannies are for the lazy who are willing to sacrifice TRUE control for comfort.

I was going to reply individually to all 5 points, but realized that my response to all of them would have been "CRAP" and "IN YOUR OPINION".

Don't try and tell me I'm not having fun with a particular vehicle because you don't agree with my choice of transmission. Just give me a damn point by when you see me coming and try to figure out if I shifted into 3rd or 4th or if the car did that for me as I drive by you!

The scriptures according to the fundamentalist:
1/ There is only one true transmission.
2/ If you don't use the one and only true transmission you shall be cast out and labeled a heretic.
3/ Trying to defend the pagan transmission is an act of sin.

The scripture according to those wanting to go quicker:

1/ The vehicle I choose is simply a tool that I will utilize to extract every ounce of speed that I am capable of extracting.

2/ If I am short sighted enough to ignore new technologies that will accomplish my quest for quickness, then I deserve to be beaten!

On the other hand, when you drive an AT in traffic like that, don't you hear your brake pads and transmission fluid screaming in pain? (they don't make noise, but I sure hear them scream in pain) With MT you can roll along very slowly and the clutch won't complain too much.

let's be honest. most people who buy a car in automatic can't drive manuals. Fine by them. But even the EPA MPG can be lopsided proven many times by real world driving. Manuals still are king in MPG for the most part.

I drive an AT for the following

1. I smoke too much.
2. I am on the phone too much with work
3. I have to use a laptop in my car. Not even optional anymore
4. Kansas City is the worst place to drive. You don't get the option of rush hour, rush hour gets you, anytime, anyplace, anywhere. We aren't cows and corn out here, I swear the Illuminati is running this shit.
5. The parts are much cheaper when vendors are like "hey, uh, we need an AT to try this stuff out".
6. I haven't decided if I will let this go for a Supra or if I will just give it to my gf, either way, it will hold some value and my patience to teach that woman how to drive a manual is zilch.
