Question Carpet under tires - WHY??

Someone near my indoor condo parking spot got a new vert 135i (a beauty IMO) and is parking it so the wheels rest on four patches of Berber broadloom. Not sure if it's a long-term park or not, it's only been there a few days.

I've seen a few others do this for seasonal parking - what is the purpose?? Can't imagine it makes any difference to the tires.

I've got an Audi A8 with sticky tyres and it's been known to leave black marks in peoples driveways. (Not from doing 11's, too hard with the quattro).
Perhaps the dude likes clean concrete. lol

It's for winter storage. VERY common to prevent flat spots, but the jury is out as to its effectiveness.

Are you saying that by putting carpet underneath the tires it can prevent flat spot? Hmmm.. something new I learned today.

Speaking of winter storage, to reduce tire and suspension wear, wouldn't it make sense to put jacks (4 for 4 corners) near the tires to reduce loads on both suspensions and tires, and thus reduce/prevent flat spots?

Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

In most cases, the tires are not impacted whatsoever by having a thin slip of carpet underneath them.

It's not to prevent flat spots, it's to help mitigate how much moisture the concrete in your garage will wick out of the tires, drying and aging them prematurely...

Not sure if it works, but 4 pieces of cheap carpet isn't a horrible investment, just in case.
