Checking it out from a showroom is different than driving it. The interior stuff just fade away becomes the background when driving. The focus is just you, car and the road.

I definitely agree. I loved the car when i first sat in it. It was THE exact version I wanted, Raven A/T. Fits me like a glove, 5'5" 145lbs. Yar I need to lose some weight.

When all is said and done, it is as stated above. However, I do love burning rubber to a soundtrack. Best investment to enjoy my car even more was adding a subwoofer.

It's a sports car on a budget, be honest about it. If you dig it, you dig it, I know I do (I have zero interest in the "nicer" BRZ).
I was going to say something negative about this comment when I first read it, but after reading it a couple of times I think you're spot on in your description. A sports car on a budget is exactly how I would describe this car. It kind of rides a nice line, though...because the interior IS cheap and minimalistic, but the car is also cheap. I think that makes it more acceptable than, say, a Lotus, which has an extremely spartan interior with a much higher price tag. Cars like that force you to constantly remember that "this is supposed to be a handling car", and make you justify and rationalize the decision to drive it. "Yeah, my back is killing me because these seats have less than an inch of padding, but look how quickly I can take this corner!". At least with the FRS it's cheap where it can afford to be cheap, comfortable where it needs to be comfortable, and offers performance where it needs to offer performance (cornering vs straight-line acceleration). I'd say it's a good balance between experience and cost.

I'm happy to say our interior is "on a budget" and that's great because so am I or I'd freakin' be driving a Porsche. Not to mention with all the tail light, ECU, power window etc. TSBs do you really want a whole bunch more tech gizmos? I'm not a fan, I care more about the drivetrain and chasis, I can add better aftermarket gizmos.

The autoshow I went to had the current talked about cars in our range FR-S, Genesis Coupe, Focus ST, GTi, Mustang, and Camaro. Being able to sit inside, close all the doors, trunk lids, play with the stereo, see the guages. I can honestly say that if you think our twins have a "cheap" interior then you clearly haven't been in the Geneis or Focus. The feel of the surfaces in both just made me want out of the car, let alone the hideous orange of the ST's recaros (which I found small) and the diarhea brown of the genesis. Smashed my knee getting into the GTi and was just about done with that. Camaro and Mustang have more space to work with, lots of features I'd like to see carried over; I'm sure their Katzkins are on the way.

Side note: I sat in a new 911, same double thread red stitching all over everything, no center console, I could find just the one cupholder on the door and I tried to climb in the back seat and it was epic fail. Good thing the interior isn't selling the car...it's just the sprinkles on top. *2 cents*

This. "Fits like a glove." I'm glad there are no frills about the interior. The steering wheel feels good. The shifter feels good. Nothing else is needed. I plug in my iphone, put on Pandora and just drive. The cockpit inspires confidence.

I do miss the boost gauge from my Saab, though

Re. the interior, I was actually pleased with it the first time I saw it in person. Maybe because of how bad it photographs, but in person, I thought it looked nice. And my other car (VW GTI) is considered the hot hatch dash-stroker's wet dream car.

a 1997 civic can also be you, car and the road
you have a brz, you have nice toggle switches so i guess you can't truly experience what it's like to have a 2013 car with a 1998 interior.

i'm gonna get a lot of hate msgs for saying this, but for all those Frs owners who say "oh i like the minimalist design", i bet if the GT86 were available to them, they'll take the GT86 over the FRS anyday. Those who say no is just lying to themselves.

It it cost the same, of course it'd be great to have the extras. But I'm Pretty sure it was tight enough getting it to market here at the price.
As it was, the price was just at the fringe of what I could afford.

Stearing Wheel, check. Huge Tach directly in my line of sight, check. Great pedal placement, check. Nice bulges on the fenders that can be seen from the cockpit to let you know where the front corners of the car at all times, check.

What else do you need?

Exactly. I'd love all the extras if they were free...sadly, they are not (and even overseas they are options, I believe). The difference in cost is what made me go with the FRS over the BRZ. I can live without toggle switches and keyless entry...or, rather, I'd find it hard to justify the higher payment to have them

Oh, and coming from a '87 Corolla the FR-S is like a loaded luxury car! Wow, I can roll down the passenger window without leaning and stretching over! What, I can push this button as I'm walking up to it to open the trunk? You mean I don't have to put the key into driver door, unlock it, open it, bend over and pull really hard on that trunk lever, walk back to the hatch, tug on it to unweight it, go back to the driver seat and pull the lever again, then finally go back and open the hatch? WOah, and I push this button with the letters A and C on it and cold air comes out! Damn!

i've actually been losing weight since i decided to get the car. from 240-228, and still working on it
