I find it interesting the Evo is about the only magazine that doesn't like the GT86 as much as the others. Comparing the GT86 to a Type R is rather tough though, given the fact that the Type R was much more expensive at launch (I believe it was roughly $25k back in the 90s - which translates to over $33k today). The fact that it can hold a candle to the DC2 is very good and for less money brand new.
I always find it odd when people compare a new car to a used higher performance one. Price for the used will almost always blow it out unless you are talking a used exotic versus a new mid range car. As for the performance, the GT86 did almost where I thought it would given the reviewer. Good to hear they think it's an awesome platform that needs more polishing but I think that's what aftermarket is for. Otherwise, they would have released this car for $32k and be that much better (better tires, better hp delivery, etc. etc.). I am waiting to see what STi for the BRZ will do as well as TRD. |

From the moment I saw the spec sheet for the production version of the FRS I immediately thought of it a RWD Integra Type R, without the theft issue.

They're still backtracking from that initial review they did of a BRZ where they basically trashed it (and looked like idiots since everyone else in the world loved it). Every review I've seen from EVO on the 86 since then has backtracked a little from that initial review.

I don't mind honest reviews as long as they have facts to back it up with. They can't say "It SUCKS!" without explaining "It SUCKS! The suspension is vague and has a dual personality deciding sometimes to be harsh on rough roads but vague and overdamped on smooth tarmac" as an example (I know what I just said as an example makes no sense technically). I never did understand why EVO didn't like it. I now know personally people who have the car and they love it to bits and do agree the hype was right. Heck, one guy traded in his M5 for the FR-S which I found rather overextreme. |

Talk about trying to save face. They're nearly identical cars! There's not going to be that much of a difference between the two.And yeah I'm really enjoying mine, even coming from a much faster STI.

Did they expect Nissan 240sx / Honda Civic type aftermarket with this new car that has a brand new chassis and all?

The other car is a hell of a car. It´s the Renault Mégane Sport 265 Trophy (in the UK is called Renaultsport...) and almost no car stand a chance against it. Comparing it with any auto is like comparing a porn star with a nun.
But it´s just a different type of car for different drivers and the actual model is bit me too hatchback. Mind that this is no BS like Hyundai´s and stupid cars a like. Interesting though is that Evo chose the Clio III, my favourite being the Clio II 182. And this his how all of them are driven: http://gomotors.net/Renault/Renault-...l#.UO3dIHfKaSo |

Kids steal them for the engine....either parts or to swap the whole thing into a Civic. Can't even tell you how many Civics I've seen running around with Type-R engines in them.

Tires. Lightweight Wheels. Driving for an hour home from dealer on the interstate brought one thing home. Tires. Dunlop Direzzas and lightweight wheels 48 hours later..... Living the dream. Please don't judge this car otherwise. There is a reason for their choice. I don't know what the real reason is. Put it this way.... I would not trust my life with the tires that the 86 has stock. I went 90 on the interstate and felt unsafe. Peroid. Put the dunlop direzzas and wheels that were 32lbs lighter..... that's what I have been driving, risking my life being a race car driver (what no racetrack!!!). The stock tires on the 86 are not safe. With the tire change..... wait for the rain.... to drift.....weeeee!!!! If you want to really drive and get your heartbeat up...... get the better tires, and buy an 86. I have explored new worlds with this car. Can't really tell you more than this.... there is no roller coaster than can come close to the 86 with an experienced driver. Don't need the heat on me. But there are some days that I am just in a place that I don't think any other car could come and produce such results. Enough said. Big D

Why is no one comparing FR-S/BRZ to the S15 Silvia Autech Spec-S? The N/A 2.0 making 200 hp. weights 2800 lb at most. I guess it will make the newer car look embarrassed.

they are. maybe not in a magazine but magazines are usually only going to compare things they can get their hands on. you should buy the autech and let some magazine run a comparo.

Yeah, I would if it was legal in the U.S. Reading the article also makes me wonder if anyone is going to start modding the steering to hydraulic. I've seen it done on BMW Z4.

I agree with the points made in this article. The 86 does not have much steering wheel feedback which makes things a little less exciting and more like a video game. But I don't think it is necessarily the EPS that is causing it; I bet they could simply stiffen the dampeners/bushings in the steering wheel/rack to get more feedback. And I also agree that the engine could use a bit more power, especially in the midrange. The tires we can all replace fairly easily and will likely be the first thing I do when I get my car.

why do people continually do this? You CANNOT compare prices of cars from today against cars from 10-20, even 30 yrs ago. Everything changes. I mean geez man, those old Commodore 64 computers were such rip offs. Look how cheap computers are these days...
