It's not the PD shooting at you again, is it?

Oh, wait. You're not in L.A. Sorry.

How to fix rear deck sound

This is how i fixed my issue. I discovered that the noise is coming from the passenger side rear airbag. To get at the rear passenger side airbag, refer to this tutorial http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10002

I will skip some steps here and get to the point.

Once you remove the outer plastic trim, you will see the following (See below)

The red outline is where the PRIMARY sound is coming from. Gently tapping the airbag device will reproduce the sound. The clamp (outlined in red) is not fully attached to the chassis and makes a clinking noise. I simply took a 3inch x 3inch piece of t-shirt and wrapped it around the clamp outlined in red to dampen the sound.

In addition, I sprayed from WD40 over the metal clamp outlined in blue.

After i did all that, the noise went away.

So you put the piece of shirt behind the clamp against the frame of the body or against the part that is next to the plastic cover?

Thanks for the write-up! I tried this earlier tonight, but I don't want to declare victory until I give it a few days as the noise had a tendency to come and go. The metal clip definitely hits the frame though, so it makes sense.

I kind of shoved it in between the frame of the car body and the clamp, but also wrapped it around the entire clamp as well.

Mine's going to the dealer on Wednesday for this and a few other little things. Will report back (there is no way they can give me a "no trouble found" either, because it's not even intermitten...it's all the time).

Issue still remains. I now think it's coming from behind the rear seat, under the deck panel (where the center brake light is). I put some leftover dynamat under it and the noise is reduced, but still there. Next step is to dynamat the whole deck panel.

I had the second part of the TSB performed (I already had the first part of it done earlier) and the noise remains. Additionally, there is now some rattling from the rear shelf that wasn't there before. I'll be in contact with SoA to resolve this, but for now, I'm a bit disappointed.

I did the first part of the TSB, still have the popping noise. I notice the sound isn't there if the seats are folded down. Anyone else have the same issue?

Got my car back yesterday and the popping is gone!! Finally, thank god silence!

All they said they did was add extra insulation to the rear parcel shelf. I could tell that they must have sprayed silicone in the rear holes as well though.

Only annoying thing now is that it's so quiet I'm noticing all the other tiny rattles in other areas. Oh well, a good trade off

I finally broke down and took it in to the dealer. End result - they couldn't reproduce it. I drove with them and pointed it out, but unfortunately the roads are smooth near the dealership so it wasn't nearly as bad as it sometimes can be. They basically said "there's nothing we can do if we can't pinpoint the source". No shit, that's what I need THEM to do. Nice way to spend a day off.

Might just keep trying other dealerships in the hopes that one decides to put some effort into it.

I sprayed some WD40 in mine, last weekend. Haven't driven it since, I'll let you know the results I get tomorrow. I did not remove anything, just sprayed WD40 is all.
