everyone in ca should really be shopping in the northeast... dealers are offering sub-invoice pricing there. as of earlier in december, there's a surplus of brz cars on the lot, a lot of snow, and few buyers interested in a rwd compact. i cannot stress this enough. cars.com provides the leads, and a few e-mails go a long way in negotiations. it's a no-brainer.

Does this go for Scion too or just Subaru?

i didn't shop scions in the northeast, so i'm not sure. if any toyota dealers are sitting on scions, they might deal. i would suggest anyone shopping in CA for a scion cross-shop brz premiums in the northeast, and i suspect prices will be the same or better. dealers in northeast seem to be less inclined to option the hell out of the cars on their lots..

Did you guys contact multiple dealers for quotes right away, or did you try to work with them one at a time?

I'm just about ready to start emailing and get the ball rolling, and the itch is getting insane.

in short, definitely contact multiple dealers and collect as much info as you can. a quick excel or google docs spreadsheet will go a long way toward helping you record and organize the info you get from each dealer (dealer name and location, car available, car price, fees, shipping, total cost).

getting multiple quotes from various dealers will benefit you by (i) making the process faster; (ii) allowing you to drive down quotes through competitive bidding (i.e., letting a dealer know when another dealer is offering you lower price point); (iii) allowing you to get other information you need, e.g., cost of shipping.

for example, a car might be more expensive in CO than MA by 500$, but costs $600 less to ship from CO, so it's actually a better deal. when shopping around, i was up front with northeast dealers that their prices needed to beat nearby dealers by enough to outweigh the additional cost of shipping. they managed to do that easily.

not sure what you're shopping for, but check out the actual dealer inventories on their websites. i found that dealers often listed lower prices on their own websites than they did on cars.com or other aggregate sites. e.g., bertera subaru in CT (where i got mine) has some brz cars listed on their websites below msrp, but on cars.com, they were listed at msrp. good luck!

I'm actually starting with Bertera since they have what I want in stock (Limited, black, manual), and I noticed that as well. I figured the only numbers that matter are the ones they directly quote me, after any potential negotiations.

C/N: Time to email every weather-state dealer that seems to have a black, manual Limited in stock.

I thought I read somewhere that we get 2 year maintenance on our BRZs? If true, has anyone who has done the CO>CA cartel have any maintenance done for free at a CA dealership? I don't have anything in writing.

On my way to joining the CO>CA Cartel! Got an email yesterday from the CA dealer I ordered from projecting an April/May delivery date... for a car I ordered in September. Decided I was done waiting and went on the hunt for a SWP Limited 6MT.. and a day later (and thanks to this thread) I'm on my way to purchasing one from Flat Irons Subaru in Colorado.

if you haven't started working with anyone at bertera yet, ask for chris ledoux. he managed to get me an excellent price, did good work setting up shipping (for reference, shipping from bertera to the bay was 1200$), and was very responsive. sent me frequent videos/pictures of the car (including walk-around videos, etc., which made the remote purchase much less stressful).

He's exactly the guy I'll be contacting, as per your experience. I'll pick a few more dealers to throw into the mix as well.
