That product is obviously BS. If you really want to add 100+ HP and get over 60 mpg you need to add unicorn blood to the oil and gas. A few drops works magic. I use unicorn blood and I only need to fill my gas tank once every 2-3 months...AND THAT'S NOT ALL...I can still drive like I stole it.

I'd love to hear an explanation as to how there could be that much room for improvement in a tune.
If the internals are strong enough, 100hp is quite doable for many forced induction cars. I'm assuming that the BMW in question was, likely a 1 series.

Some manufacturers put detuned versions of their engines in lower model cars to keep their more expensive offerings on top. By unlocking the tuning and tuning for what the motor can actually do, more power is easily had in these vehicles. Also, OEM's generally put in very large factors of safety to make sure they don't have rashes of engines blowing up because x part wasn't made exactly to spec. They leave themselves a big window in which things can be off but still function fine with the factory tune. It's bad for business to a. cars blowing up or b. waste money on manufacturing processes and QC systems to make EVERY engine work to 100% of it's capability. So they over build. If you are comfortable taking a few risks you can get decent power gains out of many cars. Forced Induction makes it especially easy.

Fine print says that it must be accompanied by a careful diet and removing 1,000 lbs of surplus weight from the car.

It sure seems legit. But I try not to buy anything aftermarket unless it's Carbon Fiber. Have to reduce weight right. Perhaps there is a carbon fiber option?

I'm sure it at least comes with a sticker.

In all seriousness... I'm sure they will sell a ton of these. PT Barnum WAS right. And that's sad.

if there was some miracle drug for cars then would you think that the companies that make the cars would use the damn things oem?

It was a 335 which was already 300 HP for that model year ('08 I think). I just cant see how a reflash can get 33% more power without changing hardware.

It's a twin turbo. That engine in particular (Same as the 1 series engine IIRC) is pretty notorious for being able to output ridiculous numbers with not a lot of work.

The new Taurus SHO engine is similar. Too bad it's in a boat of a car.

Full remap and adds a lot of boost. 98hp is with their stage 3, which is a $2,200 flash. Also requires their exhaust, their oil cooler and their intercooler upgrade, so it's not just a flash.

Remaps on turbo cars make power because the tuner can remove the ability to run lower octane fuels, run a more agressive timing, ignition and fuel map and massively increase boost pressure. IIRC it takes the stock boost from 8.8psi to 14psi. I don't think many (if any) say 100whp gains with the S3 and required stuff though but I have't looked into 335 stuff in a long time.

I On the TV documentary (CBC Fifth Estate, I think) they wsaid it was a $3000.00 reflash. Looking at Dinan's website it appears to be $4900.00 +txincluding the required bolt-ons.

So, at $50/HP it is in the same league +/- as adding FI to the twins.

I noticed how pricey a CF CAI or a simple catback exhaust runs. BMW people, either they're loaded or they have no damn business driving a new BMW.

Want to pool our money for two pills and split the pills? It should be cheaper that way.
