I am in the same boat as others on this forum, until the issue is truly resolved I am not going into the dealer for a replacement fuel pump. I will let them know of the issue at the next service visit.

The issue is not a big one for me.

I guess i will wait, because i saw others basicly say the same thing (Unless it was you saying it the whole time :P)
But it sounds like a smarter choice. Like i was saying before the chirping went away before so maybe i should wait too. I just feel like maybe it will be too late later and i dont wanna miss the chance on a free fix

I guess it's time to take it by and see if the TSB fixes it. Doubtful, though.
According to the PDF the guy posted just a couple replies above yours, it is in fact a faulty pump if the cricket sound is heard. If it doesn't fix it, you keep bringing it back until it does.

I would think those that have new pumps and still have crickets most likely got another faulty pump, as the PDF explicitly implies. They say it is the orientation of a plunger inside in conjunction with certain fuel formulations...therefore one can conclude the replacement pump that still "crickets" is obviously a poorly oriented plunger problem again.

Rinse and repeat until they fix their engineering and/or manufacturing issues.

Had the crickets since 500 mi. and just made a recent switch from Chevron to Shell. Seems to me that the aeration/fuel pump lubrication problem is partially affected by the additives in the fuel. I'm on my second tank of Shell and no crickets so far (fingers crossed).

I have the chirp and it's annoying as hell when im idle at a stop light or parked. I have about 1700 miles and it started around 800. Mine was manufactured 9/12.
Yea, but didn't work for me they were like its normal they said it wasn't making a cricket noise lol they said if the sound changes bring it in again lol , here's a video

So last night on my way home, was talking to my mom on my in-car mic and she asked what the sound was. IT IS THAT LOUD now. After speaking with Scion corporate yet again, they continue to tell me that the issue is normal and that they will not be able to do anything "Until we have registered enough complaints about the problem to force a recall".

They refuse to have someone other than the idiot tech who misread the TSB in the first place look at it, nor will they do anything more to help on this issue.

I am honestly wishing that I had just bought a Genesis or Camaro at this point. This is BS. I am seriously considering finding an attorney.

@ dawnst3ar , why are you so upset mr sir? it's just a damn noise from the first of its kind in the world brand new FA20 engine. It's not effecting the performance of the vehicle, nor is it hindering you from flying around a track having a blast coming out with a huge smile on your face. I just think you're over reacting to be honest but hey bottom line is if you're not happy with the car do as you please.

Keeping on topic though, using a high grade petrol does seem to help most people. Switching to Chevron/Shell and *staying consistent with your gas station* can help your fuel pump and engine substantially. Also stay consistent with your oil.

Let's do what we can as consumers to help while the professionals brain storm this issue. Either way we're all under 3 year 36,000 mile warranty so no matter what happens up to 35,999 miles it will be fixed or replaced and re flashed or updated or what the fuq ever. So let's keep our pants on here and enjoy the car. Drive like a driver and our exhausts will do us the favor of masking that stupid chirp.

Finally had my service done yesterday. They said it was a new part number, but just confirmed it's the same as on the Subaru TSB that I uploaded. Sounds OK for now, so we'll see.

I finally got my TSB done for the chirping after waiting over a month for the parts to come into the dealership. Initially I heard no chirping. I feel after almost 500 miles since the TSB fix, the chirp is slowly coming back. It's very hard to tell sometimes because the weather is very cold at the moment. I don't know if i'm just paranoid and hearing thing but somedays I can hear the chirp when the car is fully warmed up and idling at a signal light. I guess I'll to wait til the weather gets warm to see what happens.

I'm going to want to take mine in soon, 2000mi and 2 months in and it's gotten pretty loud. At yesterday's auto-x course worker was telling car in front of me in lineup that something was squeaking in their car, it was my crickets like 5 yards away!
She thought it was kind of cute that my car was chirping, but I still want to fix it!

Let's see, I bought a brand new car and less than six months later I am being told that the manufacturer will not stand behind their warranty for a faulty part that they have specified needs to be replaced. Why, exactly, should I not be upset again??

Regardless, I took it to a different dealership, who has ordered a new pump for me - current wait is 2 weeks to 2 months, depending.

That's kinda the point though, the part ISN'T faulty, it's all in your head. There is NO chance of harm to the engine and it has NO impact on performance of the vehicle. Get over yourself.

It is not "detrimental" to operation of the engine, but in my mind it is faulty because it sounds terrible. That is enough for me. The manufacturer must be taking it that way because they are fixing it. Still waiting for parts to arrive since mid-October...

Maybe the whine from a supercharger would mask the noise...
