are all toyota dealers using this new formula now?

If so, I may have them do my next change, since I'm running their oil anyways. I can make sure my buddy is the one to change it haha

I couldn't find any documentation in the manual or on the car with the word synthetic. Picking up a bottle means nothing because I might so happen to pick up an actual synthetic bottle and around the corner there would be a conventional bottle. If I don't ask I won't know it's truly synthetic

Yeah, I too was confused as reading the owners manual didn't say a thing about dyno or synthetic. My service advisor clued me in. 0W anything is synthetic.

toyota 0w-20 is synthetic but they still carry conventional for older cars and customers who request it. Not sure about other dealers but at the one I go to I believe theres a hose that runs from the ceiling and you input the vehicle model into the computer and it automatically fills the required amount for the engine. But that is conventional oil from the hose. Synthetic is only in bottles from what I know and at the dealership I go to.

Doubt it, I saw a service record from early 2012 for my car (previous owner took it to the stealership to get ripped off for service -_-) where they filled with some conventional 5W-30. Of course, the 1ZZ engine is old but their profit margins on that oil are still high.

Most of our results are through talking with customers over the past 10+ years on consumption etc.

We have some motul tests posted on our website. One in particlar http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexfisher/8021391351/

On the BRZ Mobil 1 may be ok since it uses a 0 weight. On the other subies using the 5w30 we have seen awful results and massive consumption on oth M1 and Subaru synthetic, when clients went back to Motul or Amsoil, consumption went away.

I work at a Toyota dealership and we have a bulk tank of 5w30 that has fill stations around the shop. This is conventional. When we get cars that take 5w20 or Ow20 we go fill jugs from the 50 gallon barrels That are clearly labeled " toyota genuine motor oil" the 5w20 is conventional and the Ow20 is Toyotas ONLY synthetic oil made specifically for Toyota. The 0w20 drum DOES say synthetic type "sn" oil. If a customer wants synthetic 5w30 they can bring their own oil or we keep quart sized jugs of mobile 1 synthetic. Most Toyota engines that take 5w20 will even say on the oil cap that you can also fill with 0w20. Every toyota except the fr-s that uses 0w20 have 10,000 mile oil change intervals.

Good to know they do that in Kansas. Here in NJ they use "Premium Lube" or whatever they can get away with...

Although it's a different formula that what you can buy in the store, the Toyota Genuine Motor Oil is made by ExxonMobil.

Still doesnt make sense that Toyota would want the FR-S to change the oil after 7,500 miles if its synthetic oil. All German Car synthetic oil changes is twice as long. at 10K to 14K miles based on your driving.
German cars also have their own oil specs. ACEA A3, VW 502, Porsche A30, MB 229.3, BMW LL-01, etc. And no 0W20 or Resource Conserving GF5 5W-30 meets any of these specs.
