Not owning the car I would say around 26k in this economy is well affordable. With the current inflation being what it is right now I would say its right on par with current income. Especially with the young enthusiast, hell prior kids were buying $33k+ cars no problem, so whats 26k now? Obviously it shows with plenty of people trading in their STI's, EVO's, Mustangs, and celica's.

If the car were closer to 20k I think it would be a great buy. At 25-30 I start to question the value bc there are a lot of great cars in that price range (whether new or used). The car doesn't have very many options for what you pay, but I get it .... You are buying a great driving machine. Don't get me wrong, I love the car. Just hard to argue the value of it.

The base FR-S has all the options I care for, but does not compare with much in its price range. The fact that a car in this price range doesn't come standard with navigation or any other gadgetry is a bit unnerving, but by the same token, I think enthusiasts are drawn to it for this very reason. What we're paying for is the development costs of a unique chassis that is produced in relatively low numbers. Is that really worth a $5k premium? I think the fact that demand for this car remains strong after ~8 months of being on sale answers that question. It'll be interesting to see how sales shift in years to come, after the early adopters have all bought theirs...my guess is many of the manual transmission cars will sit on dealer lots, and you'll be able to pick up a brand new one for $22k. This will be exacerbated by the release of an STi or other hopped up factory version.

After driving an 89' Corolla GTS for 5 years I'd say my FR-S is worth every damn penny I put into it.
I actually get excited driving to work and back. I actually enjoy just cruising around in my car. I actually enjoy driving in general again. It's not just a chore anymore.

And I don't think it fair to bring in used cars to compare on value; apples to oranges. Cayman, S2000, e46 M3, C5 ZO6 & 335i are all superior cars in many ways and can be had for $25k or less. However, buying an unknown history $40-60k (which has $40-60k cost appropriate maintenance) car with miles is much different than buying a brand new Toyota, especially if it's your only car. |

Go get you a BMW or something like that. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY FR-S. Was it worth the 25900 i paid? 100% Yes! If you don't like it, DON'T buy it. Very simple!
