Looks like a "car warriors" episode was done on the BRZ/FRS. Fugly! Too many taillights must make it a Supra. And what's with the feminine winged napkin someone left on the seat. Geez!

Bucket seats are an upgrade? Since when? My BRZ didn't come with a bench seat. Did anybody elses? Ridiculous propaganda.

Mr Tada explains with a smile: "The president (Akio Toyoda) has asked me to make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible." The chief engineer was speaking in Germany at the recent launch of the Toyota 86 Experience to highlight the model's sporty abilities.

I'm waiting for the Supra just as much as all of you but I stopped holding my breath a long time ago. When Toyota releases actual Supra pics you can be damn sure it won't have anyone elses branding on the car besides Toyota.
we know its a modified 86, but who is to say they aren't testing small things? we know the supra will be a completely different car apart form the 86 but doesnt mean you cant experiment and see what the public thinks with 1 off parts on a 1 off car, we like it, they make something close to it when the supra actually gets here....

most people recognize a supra form the tail lights, i know i do

Lol, I'm gonna be a realist here. Especially since there is some seriously deluded thinking on the part of a lot of people regarding wht the next Supra should be, and what it will be. I've said before that "if" the Supra is made, it won't be affordable for most people. I'm guessing $70k+ easy. It won't be competing with the Z, it will have the GT-R in it's sights. It will be made using tech from the LFA, perhaps even using a derivative engine based on the LFA in a front engine format. Expect an advanced paddle shift gearbox, possibly something along the lines of the IS-F.

I hope they do release it soon and I do hope they release it at about $70-$80k to make the car a little more accessible but not so much it becomes the next 370Z which I see everywhere. People forget that the Supra became a marquee car for Toyota...it's halo car if you will. They were pretty expensive back in the day...you could buy a Porsche 911 for about the same price back when they were new. Just because you can buy a 1995 MkIV TT with more than 100k miles on it for less than $30k doesn't mean the new one is gonna be anywhere near that price.

The LFA is old news, it was a neat exercise to prove Japan has what it takes to build a supercar, but it kinda fell flat on its face when compared to cars that were less expensive than it...and I don't see Toyota refreshing the LFA with a new version of it.

Yes you are right, it is clearly the FR-S/86.

But that doesn't mean that the concept elements (headlights and taillights) won't make its way onto another Toyota sports car in some way or form.

Sigh, i know everyone here wants this to be a precursor to the Supra, but Gazoo isn't where Toyota R&D sends it's designs to be made into a body kit for the GT86. Don't get me wrong it looks like Gazoo took inspiration from concept images of the new Supra and that's cool but speculation about the new Supra based on a bodykit released by an aftermarket "partner" of Toyota is reaching...

I don't know about that, I'm thinking a new Supra will most likely share platforms with the new GS/IS sedan/RC coupe (LF-CC). There could be a base model using the V6 from the IS350; while the high performance model with either use a V6TT or NA V8 depending on what direction the next gen IS-F takes.

Why would Toyota release a sports car that isn't special, they have filled all the spots of a car line-up with one glaring exception...no mid-level sports car. Basing the Supra on a pre-existing platform is fine, but it's gonna need to have some seriously "special" things about it to actually get people to wan't it over an IS-F...just saying.

Just give me access to that booty to put on my BRZ (or the BRZ STI Concept's booty) and we'll call it good.

Something new is always nice.

I don't think anyone is trying to say "Gazoo GRMN Sports FR Concept = new MK5 Supra".

But it would be nice if the headlights and taillights were used in the production MK5

The MK4 Supra shared similar platforms to the SC/Soarer and GS/Aristo. What set the Supra apart was its styling which was well ahead of its time. For one they need a flagship sports car for the Toyota brand. Two, a manual tranny, which the IS-F doesn't offer. Three, maybe more power and less weight compared to the IS/RC and the F version. Four, a slightly lower price tag VS the Lexus IS/RC.

I wonder how many MPG it gets? 12?

The thing I liked about the Supra was its curviness. I don't like sharp rectangular shapes.

Too broke to be able to afford an 86 anytime in the near future, but geeze I hope that front & back end are used in the 2015 "refresh". Makes the car look a gazillion times better, those extra ponies certainly help as well... My only complaint is that the shape of the headlights are a little too Mazda 3'ish.
