I think the only reason why the FR-S was sold as a Scion was to help the struggling brand try to make a come back.

I believe they are totally different markets. One is a cheap sports car with lightweight being it's #1 punch while the other is a sports car

I think people are just saying that the head and tail lights look similar to the MK4 Supra.

IF this is a Supra, which I would love, I would hold off on purchasing my BRZ. I don't care if it's rumored for 2014 or 2015.

I want a new Supra, and I want it now

It's clearly a GT86 with a metric asston of work done to it. No it's not the Supra successor, sorry. This will be super expensive, we're talking ABFlug Supra expensive due to the amount of work that has been done to fundamentally change the entire exterior of the car, not to mention the rest of the work. You can tell it's an FRS by the windows and roof in the very first pic.

I'm waiting for the Supra just as much as all of you but I stopped holding my breath a long time ago. When Toyota releases actual Supra pics you can be damn sure it won't have anyone elses branding on the car besides Toyota.

I agree. A 1997 Toyota Supra sold for $39,900 msrp. That'd be $57,142 in today's money. As with any of these old high end sports cars (300zx, rx7, 3000gt, supra, nsx, etc.), many of us 'youth' today are too young to remember how expensive they were new and quickly jump to the used market prices as references. Even a Honda Prelude was $25,000 (!) 13 years ago but sells for $5k today. I presume the car would be in line between the Audi S4 and BMW M3. Right around the $53k mark. I doubt it would be an extreme built inline 6 twin turbo again, likely some sort of performance hybrid system ala new NSX but it's possible it'll be FI, too. ~400hp and a 7+ speed auto dual clutch. Bring in the sporting dynamics developed from the FRS into a larger gran touring model with leather and the works, just as its predecessor was.

While it's great to see more sporting initiatives coming out of Toyota, it makes one really appreciate the Toyobaru for the odd duck it really is: cheap, no frills, all thrills sports car.

Now the question beckons, which of the 3 brands does the new Supra come out under? Nissan made a bold move to bring the GTR not under Infiniti but Nissan. Should Toyota do the same? Should it be a Lexus? Should it be a Scion? There are valid arguments for each: one allows a potential higher profit margin and adds to the brand cache while pandering to those 'loyal' who should be in the salary bracket to afford it. The other allows for massive corner/quality cutting and presumably quicker development time and panders to the romanticized history (illusion) of the car with those too young to know the predecessors personally when new. Going straight through as a Toyota model is strangely the most emotional and 'rationale' but likely the worst objective way. As seen with the GTR it is a terrible financial move but appreciated by the faithful (for whatever that's worth). Then again, maybe the Supra won't suffer the same consequences as it ought to be half the price of Godzilla.

I have a feeling that a new Supra will look like the FT-HS concept. But put the new head and taillights from the Gazoo GRMN Sports FR Concept II and that equals win in my book.
