For all those that are going crazy due to this kit is cheap, settle down.
All we have for the moment are pictures. No dyno, no numbers, nothing but hype. That being said I know that Innovate is a great company. By no means am I trying to down play nor do I think they will come out with something that'll disappoint. At the same time I must wait for numbers. $3.5K ain't cheap for 30whp.

From Import Tuner" " Reliability: In general, superchargers enjoy a substantial reliability advantage over the turbocharger. When a a turbo is shut off (i.e. when the engine is turned off), residual oil inside the turbo's bearings can be baked by stored engine heat. This, combined with the turbo's extremely high rpm's (up to 150,000rpm) can cause problems with the turbo's internal bearings and can shorten the life of the turbocharger. In addition, many turbos require after market exhaust manifolds, which are often far less reliable than stock manifolds. Last thing to take in account is the surge, which could cause damage." Cons of a turbo vs supercharger from Tuninglynx: "More intercooling needed to cool inlet air. Much higher under bonnet temperature making everything hotter and so reducing power. High under bonnet temperature reducing life of things like wiring looms and hoses. Much higher incidents of fire due to red hot turbo and manifold. Compromise exhaust manifold and system function due to restriction of turbo not letting the gas flow freely. Extra shock loadings on transmission because of sudden increase in power" Its hard to exactly pin point which is more reliable. Too many variables, driving conditions, install, quality of parts used. But superchargers have less parts, less heat, some are self lubricated even. In the S2k world I came from, it was not uncommon for engine fires with turbo kits. I have never, ever seen a supercharged S2k burn down to the ground.

http://www.simplystance.com/en/handl...s-supercharger http://www.automotiveforums.com/t417...bocharger.html I did a bit of research, but none of these articles mention that superchargers are less reliable when compared to turbos. Most of them say that superchargers are more reliable, and that is one of the strengths of the platform. Can you link me to some better resources? |

Don't forget that turbos also develop shaft play over time, which can cause the impeller to make contact with it's housing...and that's BAD news.

Given that a supercharger is going to create less heat under the hood and also keep exhaust temps down a bit compared to a turbo, anyone else think there's a possibility that we'll be able to see boost pressures a little higher than the turbos can manage on pump gas while still being reliable and safely out of detonation range?

From my understanding turbos are also trickier to tune since they effect both the intake and exhaust sides. Lots of evidence that a twin screw supercharger is if anything more reliable then a turbo.
For anyone saying the oppisite please provide some documentation. I'm not critizing I want to understand better since I'm seriously thinking about a supercharger.
