What to bring to a track day...

Heading to the track this weekend... not my first time at the track, but first time in the BRZ. It's been a few years since I last did a track day, so I started to make a checklist of the things I figured I should bring to the track:

helmet
air compressor (to adjust/inflate tires)
tire pressure guage
socket wrench/tools
torque wrench
oil
brake fluid
water
spare set of brake pads
tarp
work/mechanics gloves
flashlight/worklight
jack+jackstands
wood blocks (useful as wheel chocks)
folding chair
extra clothes/shoes
cooler for drinks/food
Snacks
set of magnetic numbers
camera
12V cell phone charger
GoPro camera
paper towels
windshield/glass cleaner
Zip ties for emergency fixes
Sunblock, Chapstick
painter's tape for masking front
Umbrella
Duct tape

anything else you guys would bring?

Don't think I'll need the sunblock this time... Forecast is rain, rain and more rain...

But great suggestions to the list, I'll add them above.

Bring snacks, like granola bars and etc. Also typically magnetic numbers won't stick at high speeds.

Nice list--thank you.

As a PCA driving instructor, I'd ask one thing not to bring, for those that are new to track events--your ego... Please leave that @ home.

You forgot the all important ductape! Kidding aside, very good list @PMok. I'd add coolant to the list of spare fluids (although a lot of tracks don't like it, so a jug of distilled water would be good). A hat, sunblock and some chapstick is also good for the summer days. Other than that, some cash and if you have it, your AAA card, just in case you do mess up and need a way back home

I try to minimize the amount of stuff that I take (my s2k doesn't fit much...), so here's how I compact everything.

This all fits into a $10 toolbag from Sears/Craftsman about 10x8x8 (very compact!) that stays in the car full time:
- Cordless Impact
- Extra battery for cordless impact
- Mallet
- All sockets that I need to work on the car (ONLY the sockets needed)
- 14, 17, 19, 21 impact sockets
- 1/2" drive swivel socket
- Work gloves
- Wheel lock keys
- Hex key ratchet all-in-one tool
- tire gauge

Glove compartment (all of this also is in the car full time):
- Small spray bottle of quick detailer
- high quality Flashlight (Surefire, LED, Li battery, 30+ hour run time on low setting)

Trunk:
- can of engine oil (300V only for me)
- disposable gloves, stored in the styrofoam donut on the spare (costco)
- Torque wrench
- bag of microfiber towels (Costco)

Situational, track-day specific stuff:
- Extra brake pads (usually keep a set of street or race pads in the trunk anyways, I swap on a whim)
- Bottle of brake fluid (can bleed the OEM system with 1 bottle if you're not excessively wasting fluid)
- Extra rotors (won't need to on the BRZ, but my s2k EATS rotors....)
- Floor jack (Harbor freight makes some very affordable ones)
- Jackstands
- sunblock
- Foldable cooler
- Water
- Ice (purchase at closest gas station to the track, dump before leaving)
- Coffee/Energy drinks (I'm a caffeine fiend)
- Multitool of some sort (leatherman, swiss army knife, etc.)
- Paper towels (or napkins from fast food joint of your choosing...)
- Helmet
- Driving shoes
- Extra socks
- Foldable chairs
- painter's tape

All of this easily fits into a S2k trunk, and will fit into a BRZ/FR-S trunk with room to spare for a few backpacks or anything else you need. The BRZ/FR-S can also fit a full set of spare rims/tires in the back seats if you just put the tires vertically in the back seats, 2 per side. Stock sized wheels/tires will give you almost full range of adjustment with the seats!

The list Mike made is great. Last night I basically packed everything on Mike's list and PMok's list and it all fits in the FRS/BRZ just fine. The jack (Harbor Freight) moves around a lot so just make sure you pack things around it.

You should also add an umbrella to the list. Good on rainy days and when it's summer.

Funny you say that; a golf umbrella fits perfectly between the passenger seat and doorsill...

Only noobs tape up their front end! Track whores generally don't care that much about the looks We've actually had to black flag folks who put too much tape on and it started to come off causing a safety issue on track.
