Unfortunately the downside is that it only works with Android and the HKS OB-Link is about US$300 here in NZ. The ELM327 connector that does the same thing is about US$15 but no-one on here has worked out how to get oil temp. And, I was too impatient to wait until someone has!

Cheers.

I have a Nexus7 running Torque with a Kiwi OBD2 via BT in my Liberty at the moment. The display menu has oil temp but the car does not measure it so it is greyed out.

Good to hear this car does.

The brakes are my favourite part. Black wheels can "disappear" on a car but with the massive red brake callipers make sure they don't!

I'll see if I can get hold of the Kiwi ODB2 in the New Year and test it out for you to see if it works with oil temp. If it does then that might be the solution for the apple users.

Looks like they are around the US$100 mark on ebay so a lot cheaper than the HKS OB-Link but still a lot more than the ELM327.

Don't overmod, move up to better car

Think a few mods OK but when you run the cost up too much then you would be better to buy a Porsche Cayman. You can usually knock $10k off near years end.
I just added Rota Grid wheels w/ Pilot Super sports 18" and a high flow cat pipe for sound and an additional 2.5 mpg.

Yep, but personally I think you look a tossa driving a porsche as your daily driver so would rather have a completely over-specced Toyota being more "mainstream".

And, I think I'll do closer to NZ$20k of depreciation in the first year given the amount of cash I've sunk into this!

No need for a DIY.

It is REALLY easy. I don't even do my own oil changes and had to ask on the forums where the menu button on the Samsung tablet was - that's the level of my knowledge.

All you do is plug the OB-Link into the OBD2 connector under where the stearing wheel is. Then on your android download two apps - a communication one and the carscope app. Lastly you go into the menu and select Toyots 2 as the car type and it should all just work.

That's it - even I could do it!

Can't see any way of pulling it. Like most apps the carscope is pretty locked down and i don't have the technical skills to hack it and get the codes.

Have just received a Kiwi2 wifi plx connector that will work with iPhone and is US$120 compared with US$300 odd for the HKS OB-Link. The OB-Link is very nice with no delay in transmission, it really is real time.

But the Kiwi2 does look good and heaps of apps for gauges etc. Going to try it tomorrow.

Also have the ELM327 to try out with the torque app for android and see if I can get that oil temp PID working. If you don't need/want oil temp then this is the cheapest solution at the moment but if you want oil temp then no-one can seem to get it to work.

So I now have all three generally available solutions to test out for you and everyone else!

Still trying to find the cheapest solution for owners. At the moment it looks like the Kiwi2 plx connector and iPhone app or the Bluetooth version and android apps but that is still US$120 plus the app cost if you don't go a free one.

Would be great to get the oil temp on the ELM327 working as that would be the cheapest solution. Still trying... and any suggestions to try welcome as I am no techie and given the owners threads showing how many IT geeks are owners someone should be able to give me some ideas to try.

Damn, tried the kiwi2 plx wifi connector with all the iPhone apps that seem compatible AND the ELM327 with three android apps and NONE showed real time oil temp.

Then tried the oil temp PID from Wikipedia and no data received.

So, looks like my earlier solution with the HKS OB-Link is the only way I can see to get real time oil temp. Cost is approx US$300 for the OB-Link, the carscope app is free, and if you have an android phone that is all you need other than a suction mount for your android phone that you can get cheap from eBay. At this stage the HKS OB-Link is not compatible with iPhone.

For a really nice look you can link to an installed 7" tablet in your dash or suction mount to the screen.

I see there's also some really expensive JVC and Pioneer head units that may allow their touch screen to control the android app and that would be pretty cool.

Bad news is that unless someone else can work out a solution the cheaper ELM327 and Kiwi plx connectors won't give you real time oil temp and the cost of the OB-Link is pretty steep if that is all you want it for.

Sorry I can't be of any more help unless some IT geeks have anything else to try.
