Most likely too lazy to investigate... I can understand it all being confidential and everything but they can easily do it privately...

Over the years I've had them tell me things like accidents don't need reports, we don't do the reports, there's too little damage (when there wasn't) and all manner of other things that added up to "We don't feel like doing this."

To be fair I'll see what someone else says, but I believe 5/6 digits and the make and model is an easy puzzle.

So leaving the scene of an accident is no longer a crime out there. Speak to their supervisor regarding issues. If he doesn't do shit ask for the police PR department.

This is absolutely absurd if true. You have enough evidence for them to pursue your case! Definitely report this guy when you speak to someone higher up.

Have you ventured into any Lexus IS forums? I'd imagine owners of such high end cars like an IS-F would be involved in forums to meet local owners as well.

I wouldn't count on the cops for any of this. Check with your insurance company if the video is enough to file a claim without it being your fault. (Not sure how it works in your state) They can find the driver (or car's insurance company) and go after them.

It's not really a criminal issue, and they can get in WAY more trouble than it's worth by giving anyone's personal information to you. I know it sucks for you this week, but next week when you cut someone off in traffic and he's asking the same cop for your home address from your plate number you'll be glad it's set up this way.

If I remember correctly your insurance can actually look up the car that hit you as well or better than the cops. At least I've had them help me when I've written down the wrong number. The video should be enough to prove it wasn't your fault if that matters to your insurer and if they want to go after the car that hit you (probably worth it given the damage) then they'll figure out who it was for you.

Actually in most states, this is a criminal issue. Leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to provide information are both criminal offenses, some states punishable by jail time.

It would be easy enough for this guy to say he didn't know he hit the car. He was backing up with the stereo turned up, noticed the car and drove off.

There often also has to be either personal injury or property damage over a certain dollar amount to trigger the charges.
