The gasoline you buy in most parts of the United States come from the same source no matter what brand you are choosing. It comes down a pipeline at 89 or 93 octane for the most part. It is a commodity. At a pipeline fuel terminal, the various retailers all use the same stock. At that point, they add there additive packages and the 10% ethenol (the alcohol must be transported by tanker as it is corrosive to pipelines).

Mid-grade gas is mixed at the pump between the high and low octane tanks.

I'm not saying the gas is not different between brands but, Shell, Mobil, Race Trak, or Valero is the same stuff, just different additives.

I wish there was non-ethanol gas available where I live.

Hmm, I just notice QuickTrip is top tier gas while RaceTrak is not, that may change my buying habit.

I'm scared of shell. Always had knock I'm my big turbo cars when running it. Loved Sunoco ultra 94 but they got rid of it here. So I've been using BP ever since with no issues.

In and around Montreal, QC... I believe my choices stand between Shell 91 (v-power), or Petro-Can 94 'winter clean' this time of the year. They are the only ones as far as I know who are caring anything above 91. Can someone tell someone at Ultramar or a competitor to get their act together already.

Personally, I will be trying to run only 94 or better... but you never know where you will be and you might need to stoop to 91 some day when you need gas real bad.. :P

Maybe keep a bottle of some "octane enhancer" in the trunk - justin case.....

I've been using nothing but Shell 91, I noticed slight cricket chirping (almost like a ringing sound) but it wasn't that noticeable.

Today though, I filled up with Petro 94 on my way home from work. Next couple of days will tell if there are more crickets

I make it a point to buy something inside the store and thank them every time I fill up.

Edit: Great news! Pure-Gas.org shows one of my local stations has reopened and continue to offer ethanol-free 24/7 pay at the pump. HOORAY! This is the best part of pure-gas... users can submit updates so people know what is going on.

Atlanta...the land of ethanol.

Granted, there seem to be few pure stations with 93 in Georgia anyway.

Shell V-Power 93 Octance during break-in. But the closest Shell is quite far away and expensive, so i'll be using whatever 93 octane i can after break in (probably the cheap stuff down the street).

Throughout the past six years, I've use Shell 91 for my Evo almost exclusively. I may have used Chevron for maybe five tanks and I might have used Mobil once, but nothing else.
