New supra rumor has been around since before the first ft-hs concept. I called it as soon as toyota stated they are moving in a new direction and wanted to bring back the passion. Been waiting for the FRS for as long as i can remember and if toyota makes it happen at a 35kish price tag i'll be waiting again.

I doubt it. I'd expect them to platform share with the IS350; same as Nissan does with the 370Z and Infiniti G.

No, no, no, and did I write "No"?
I've been following FT86/FRS for pretty long time and I do love this car... BUT cannot compare Supra w this car. FT86/FRS goal and Supra goal is totally different. |

The only proper reincarnation of the Supra is an inline-6 turbo. Period. Anything else would ruin the name for me. I would love if they just reproduced the MKIV. Don't change anything, same body, same wonderful 2JZ engine. They could probably reproduce it for a whole lot less money than it cost in 1998. But my requests will fall on deaf ears.

@Suprachica
It wouldn't meet emissions regs, or EU pedestrian safety rules, would get terrible crash-test/safety ratings, and it would play hell with Toyota's corporate average fuel economy. On top of that I highly doubt Toyota still has any of the tooling/molds to reproduce any of the old parts, that means an investment of tens of millions of dollars. |

Yeah, agree w old_greg. Suprachica, how bout V6 with twin turbos? Or even V10 from LFA? iirc that thing is size of V8 w weight of V6 (or other way around).

![]() I see your point of I6 car should come back as I6... but look at Nissan. Fairlady & GT-R both now have V6 engine. They both started out as I6. Lancia Stratos used to have V6, but remake one gonna have V8. FT86/FRS can be said the same thing. It's somewhat of successor of AE86, so it should have I4 engine, but instead, they're going w H4 boxer engine. M3 used to have I4 turbo, but now V8. List just goes on and on... It's just a part of a cycle. By any means, I'm not saying I6 sucks. I love I6 & Supra. Just current I6 technology vs V6 technology, V6 is lighter, shorter, & a bit more economical. What if Toyota use few technology that they used on LFA into new V6/8 and made put two extra snails on it & full aluminum chassis? That would make sweet next gen Supra... But I prefer to see Toyota to improve Subie's H6 engine and pop 2 snails on it and make very low CoG next gen Supra... but that's just my dream |

I hear you on the comparisons, and if they kept it twin turbo I'd be dually happy. Also, think about the time frames for those cars. The supra was an I6 for what, 20+ years and 4 generations? As for subaru, I can't stand them, I think their recent build quality is crap, and when I first heard this car was a hybrid between subaru and toyota, I was immediately turned off. But, it's still alot of toyota tech which is why I am still interested and ultimately would like this to be my next car. As for a Supra, I want that to be completely Toyota 100%. The FR-S is somewhat of a throwback to the AE86, but its not a direct successor, so I can see the hubrid of 2 companies. But if they bring back the Supra, use that name, I want it all Toyota. |
