It's comical how bent out of shape some people get about negative reviews.
Almost like some people on here and the internet act like its these reviews were an insult to your slightly handicapped child.

I think a lot of people are taking this personally becuase this particular review comes off more as insulting anyone who bought the car / enjoys the car as being misinformed and ignorant car enthusiasts, as opposed to being an impartial negative car review. |

Meh. The automotive talking heads (and drivers) I respect the most (Pobst, Tiff, JC, Chris Harris) all love the car. Good enough for me.
I'm a young professional who pays all of my bills (including my student loans, yay!), lives on my own and bought the FR-S as my first new car. My old car was coming up on some relatively large maintenance items that I didn't want to deal with and I've been a fan of the 86 since the first concept. I also got $1k off for having graduated in the last 18 months. All of those things swayed me towards getting the FR-S and I haven't regretted it at all. The fact that he spends more time bashing his theoretical vision of an FR-S owner than talking about the actual car makes his argument juvenile and really not worth arguing with. If he's going to negatively critique me as a person who owns the car instead of the car itself then I really have nothing to say to him, my current situation stands for itself. Nathan |

Regardless I think this is one overly sensitive group, and don't know if it is because of the age group on here or just the fact that the car is part of many people's ego.

Everyone has their preferences and biases. And in today's world you have to stand out to get noticed. So writing something counter to most other articles is going to get you noticed. I think most articles are positive and straight-up about the cars intended uses. Like someone else said here- you don't use a Corvette to haul concrete!
So much press is sensationalized to get noticed. I say the sooner we ingore it, the sooner it goes away. These stories don't seem to have a lot of support and keeping it a hot topic gives the cred' the author is looking for. |

I bought Scion FR-S and do not live in my mom's basement, I own my house. How do I fit into that stereotype rant ? I just love the look and feel driving it. 4 months and nobody has bothered me trying to race. I am still very pleased.

meh, i'm 22 going to college live on my own and pay my own damn bills. i've had several people call me words synonomous with 'spoiled' when they see my car. immediately assuming i have an easy life that my parents pay for. i dont care if people dont like my car but i do take offense when people think i got it handed to me on a silver platter.
its a terrible stereotype to say we all live in our parents' basement. not cool. |

The funny thing is, I get the feeling Bertel Schmitt (their editor, I believe) really likes the FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 (he was the first to test it, over in Japan - ended his review with "I would buy it").
Incidentally, I don't seem to notice as many reviews from Jack Baruth anymore. Take his stuff with a grain of salt - after all, this is the guy who opened up his time at TTAC with a series about how to drive dangerously and illegally, and get away with it. Quote:

I hate to bring back a dead thread...
But Jack is NOT a 20 something go no where guy. I've met him, ridden with and watched him drive, he is well above average. He also has plenty of green, he did have a custom ordered green s5. MAG in Columbus knows him very well. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2 |

Odd that another reviewer from TTAC gave the FR-S good marks.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVmpoT6RbHk"]2012 Scion FR-S vs. Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T vs. Mazda MX-5 - YouTube[/ame] That jacket proves he is a tool. Every reviewer has enjoyed this car. I work two jobs and don't appreciate the insinuation that I live in my parents' basement. |
