I've had the Escort 8500 for years now and it has saved me numerous times.

You really can't go wrong with most radar detectors that are $300+. Escort, Beltronics, K40, Valentine 1, etc.

Always used V1's! Sold my last one because the Jeep didn't go fast enough. Now with the BRZ I catch myself speed a lot because it is so much easier to drive. That being said...Just ordered a new V1 w/ BlendMount rear view mirror mount.

Going with the STi-R Plus, display hidden in behind the auto-dimming mirror glass.

Still trying to decide the best location to mount the controls:

and a kill switch. I'd LOVE to use the snow/sport button from the AT BRZ's as a kill switch, but that's probably over my head.

For the controls, right now i'm thinking i may flush mount them behind the seat heater controls, or in the slanted part of the console by the cigarette lighter.

I'm using a Valentine One that I bought 24 years ago and it works as good today as when i first bought it. It has never broken down or failed to work just as advertised, even though its been dropped on concrete floors on several occasions, withstood the heat of 24 hot and humid Alabama summers, and suffered somewhat careless treatment (accidental) by its owner during those 24 years. As I've told my wife many , many times, it has been the best consumer purchase I've ever made, and if it died tomorrow, I'd be ordering a new one within 15 minutes.

Valentine V1. The best. It looks old school but I hardwired and found the perfect spot. I wouldn't drive without it.

It's worked great for me. Haven't received a speeding ticket yet, then again, just because I have a radar detector does not give me the right to drive fast everywhere I go. Being smart about where I speed and having a radar detector = win win situation.... unless law enforcement is using a LASER. Then you're mostly SoL.

9500ix ALL DAY , living in NY the amount of hidden redlight cameras are Rediculous so living in Urban areas is a must for this detector. the detection of some bands arent as good as other detectors but you def get saved. Also why would you need Arrows for, if you hear the detector going off just slow down all together haha because thats what you would do anyway no matter what anyone says haha. with the redlight camera detection it does have an arrow pointing to where it is.

Ditto. 9500ix is what I use, also in NY. The only other model I'd consider would be the 9500ci but since I switch between multiple vehicles, I needed something I can bring with me.

I recently finished the install of my 9500ci. My philosophy while installing was not to do anything that couldn't be undone.

I'm likely going to do some cutting for the control mounting, and obviously the display in the rear-view mirror is going to stay there, but there won't be anything visible from the outside (radar antenna hidden behind the bumper facia).
