Hankook RS-3's require heat or they don't grip for shit, and AutoX doesn't really provide any heat to the tires in the short runs and lower speeds. The Star Specs seem to be the favorite bargain AutoX tire from what I've been reading, because they grip when cool, stay grippy when warm, and have decent tread life. I'm interested to see how my Nitto Invo's work for AutoX though, only bad thing is cost, at almost $200 per tire it's certainly not cheap...

I'm gonna be running NT05's or NT01's depending on whichever one is readily available once i start looking for new rubber. The NT05's might be the best for just road use but those NT01's just scream pick me!!!

A lot of the locals run Hankooks, maybe, because for most of the year, it isn't difficult to warm those tires. Star Specs do not like too much heat, and so they require spraying when it is warm here, or with co-drivers. I was even doing some spraying this last weekend in Marana because I had a codriver.

I ran 215 Hankooks at El Toro in May or June on a bone stock FR-S, and while I sucked, my co-driver came in third in a very competitive field. I switched to Star Spec because I wanted stiffer sidewalls, but I had no trouble with the Hankook grip (it is a grippier compound than Star Specs, but those sidewalls).

Another factor is that many prefer hankooks for lighter cars, while star specs perform better on heavier cars.

I never really put this much thought into tires before. In the American car world there is a specific tire everyone likes for each car but with this being a brand new car everyone is looking at all the options. I always went with the crowd in the past getting the same ones everyone else has. I'm pretty set on the star specs and not the Hankooks for my first set if I don't like them I will try the other ones next time. what does everyone think about putting them on the stock rim and running them as a daily tire?

I daily-ed two different miatas with 2 slightly different sized Star Specs, and it was incredible. However, with the FRS being heavier, Im betting they would not last as long as they did on the miata (I nearly got 10k miles out of each, which is about 1 year of driving for me.)

Well cat back exhaust will be going on this weekend, hopefully starting box as well. Decided even though i could cut panel and make it all work. I also noticed an impact sensor thats in the Hole and id have to see if theres enough room to relocate it to outside the hole which would be easy as long as its not directional. Idk im going to look into some more before i start the floor box.
