It's odd that it wouldn't fit. You'd think that besides the actual gear assembly the shifter is the exact same part, just oriented differently for the AT. Why would they give it a different thread pattern?

Isn't the manual a Subaru unit while the AT is a Toyota part?

Hmmm... If that's true then that would explain it.
So how would we be able to tell if a knob might work or not? Or is this basically impossible to do without the physical knob?

If the only difference between the MT knob and the AT is the thread being 8 agsnsit 12,I know how to fix it. Will post when I get home.

any shifter that fits an Impreza 08 AT will fit then brz/frs AT. I have a AT flossy knob and just asked them to thread it the same size as the 08 Impreza at. Although they should already know the brzfrs AT thread size

OK. Here's the solution. http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210718
Open that page and see the first post. It contains a link where you can buy an adapter that will convert the 12x1.25 to 8x1.25. That will make any MT shift knob fit on the AT rod. The price of the adapter is $2.50. You welcome!

Are you sure 8x1.25 is the auto size for the knob ordered an adapter and it didnt fit. I'm going to assume it is 10x1.25 like other subaru cars.

That was the answer in two or three places when I googled it, but it was forums that could be wrong like I was. My bad man. Maybe someone should ask a vendor that sells em for a definitive answer (even though its gotta be 10 if it isn't 8).
