The engine regardless of break in period is designed to be revved. Even in the video the engine was only under full load less than 10% of the time. You won't get anyone with a mechanical background to say this was excessive or abuse. Legally there is no case against the dealership as there was no damage done or any proof of serious abuse. The events were recorded without the dealer and techs knowledge, owner should have stated all events are recorded. Do techs drive other cars the same way? Speculation.

Anyways, it's wrong on all levels and if I was the owner of this car I'd flip shit and fuck the dealership to the walls. This is wrong. |

I agreed with you up until the "not even some crazy expensive car either." comment. Are you suggesting that it's acceptable for service personnel to thrash your GTR or Ferrari? I don't care if I bring in a Ford Pinto for service, YOU'D BETTER RESPECT MY SHIT! |

Video #2 Heard no conversations...............#3 NO video, says it's private. Didn't hear any burnouts.........the second tire squeal in the first video, a little over the line and un-necessary. So, hard to judge all you've posted when all the videos don't seem to work properly.

Yeah, that tech was out of line. This should not even be a conversation. When driving someone else's car, you should be courteous and drive with care. Period.

The 3rd video was just the guys in the shop talking about wanting to bang some girl. Had nothing to do with the car or this topic.
This is the real world. You own a 25k car and are having it serviced at a Scion/Toyota dealer which are some of the HIGHEST volume dealerships on earth. The techs are not going to come from a specialty background, they are going to be your average guys there to get a paycheck. Most just starting off willing to deal with the high volume atmosphere and BS pressures for now. This happens at every major high volume dealer. If you want white glove service dealing with high paid, highly professional staff you ARE NOT going to get it from a Scion/Toyota dealership. Get a boutique car if you want that. Some of you guys are just way too sensitive. Look, all I am saying is put it in perspective. My last two cars the dealership would pick up the car from my house in a closed trailer for service and then drop it back off when done. But you have to spend a spend a lot of money to own those type of cars. I know for some people on here this car is a dream or a baby, I get it, but just try to understand the brand of the car, the cost and the actual people in terms of education, skill and pay scale who are dealer with the "brand."

Personally I didn't see or hear anything in the videos that was so terribly bad. I'd expect some mechanics might want to get some feel for the car, it's power, the rubber etc. Not every mechanic would do that but that's how I've driven from day 1. And I never really watched my revs much during break-in either.
If you don't go back that's your choice but I don't know if anybody should lose their job over this. One more thing; how'd ya like if you had an unknown surveillance camera on you while you worked? Dude, it's a $25k car, not Maclaren. Stop firing people.

I had a similar experience when I had my M3. Dropped it off at a dealer then went outside to make a call. About 5 minutes later, out comes my car spinning tires in 1st and 2nd with a nice chirp in 3rd. I really don't think that's required to inspect my car...
I may have to look into picking up a dash cam.

The issue here isn't the price of the car or if there was damage done.
The tech was driving someone else's property in a less-than-desireable way, and as a customer he has every right to an explaination. |

What it comes down to is someone getting their kicks at someone else's cost, long term or not. Aside from being a question of mechanical complications this is also a question of principle which is something that seems to matter very little today. Questions of customer service take me back to TuxedoCartman's post about his experience at a Toyota dealership in Japan. I wonder how a service tech's disrespect of a customer's car would have gone over if it had happened there. I understand wanting to have fun at a job, but to hell with doing it in a way such as this. There are cleaner ways to go about it, without using something that you don't own. This type of mindset is something I really dislike. I'm not sure when it became acceptable, but it's sad.
