What my dashcam recorded when I went in for service...

Brought the FR-S into one of the local Toyota/Scion dealers for the fuel pump TSB. We dropped it off, took the other car home, and got the call that the FR-S was ready about 4 hours later.

The service paperwork said that the car had been driven 7 miles, which I thought was a little excessive, especially considering that there is a stoplight every 1/4 mile for miles and miles around the dealer.

So back home, we disconnect the dashcam to see what happened. Basically what we find is a younger (20's) service tech redlining through the gears from streetlight to streetlight repeatedly - and theres 15-20 minutes worth of it.

Do you guys think that is really necessary to diagnose the idle-chirp? We had already been to the dealership weeks before to have it diagnosed. We were just waiting for the parts until now.

Or am I just overreacting about being bothered by this?

You are not overreacting about that. I would be mad as well, I would take the video to the manager and demand an explanation and a free oil change and to have the car looked over for damage they could have done.

What a bunch of jackasses.

yeah go to the owner of the dealership and let them know.

Shagaliscious 11-07-2012 10:06 PM

Wow, you need to do something about this.

And good job not posting the video. DON'T POST IT. It will only hurt your case.

dorifuto 11-07-2012 10:10 PM

That sucks. Note to self: buy dash cam.

TheSt|G 11-07-2012 10:11 PM

And such is why I do my own maintenance.

You can always bring up the fact that user manual says 'don't rev past 3200 rpm' for certain amount of miles. 15-20 minutes? It certainly wasn't a case of 'emergency' if he was redlining and hooning like that from light to light. On top of that they were doing it on a car that wasn't theirs (ie: demo car).

Never let them get away with that shit. Honestly I would make a TREMENDOUS complain. that is riddiculous.. I would honestly reccomend a new FR-S. That is just absurd and so unethical it is beyond riddiculous.

Exactly this too.

I would show the dealership and raise hell. I hope you do the same.

Do what everyone else is saying and bring it in. You're only hurting yourself by keeping something like this quiet.

+1, including personal lawsuit to the service mechanic. Hand the suit paperwork to that 'tool' personally to see him shake a bit.

Either that or make sure you speak to the tech personally with your 'home defense unit' (mine's a vintage Johnny Bench model Louisville Slugger) in clear sight, maybe polishing it as you speak to him about how his parents should have chosen more wisely before giving birth to such a poor example of a human and how they may have taken more time teaching him to treat others belongings with respect. Then ask him where his car is.

Above a few posts, the suggestion is to not post the video. Although I am not incredibly interested in watching someones car get assaulted, how would sharing this information 'hurt' someone's case. Would they get butt-hurt at the fact they were called out e-style, about their shady service practices and poor hiring practices?

At least share the dealership and the tech so that we can exercise proper negative peer pressure and avoidance techniques that such a dealership deserves.

Did you take your FR-S to Desert Toyota, if not, which dealer in Las Vegas? I met you when your girlfriend picked up her "First 86" at Desert Toyota. Please post the dealer so others will be aware that this could happen if they have their car serviced at this dealer. I would contact the service manager first, then the general manager if you aren't satisfied with the way this is handled.

S2kphile 11-07-2012 10:29 PM

Talk to the Manager/Dealership owner. Keep it on the quiet though so you can keep your leverage and ask for compensation and have those tech guys to be reprimanded for being unprofessional so they don't do it to the next customer.

And if they don't do anything about it to your liking. Rat them out.

EDIT: GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING.
