thats what the hell i am trying to figure out. a specific reason, if visconti or someone who acutally knows something can specifically tell me that there is some kind of proprietary tech in there so be it. none of you know that for sure, basically none of you know anything about it or the software other than you can buy it on the net. |

News flash man, unless you notify them (for example with a mention), no tuner will come in and see it. They are busy enough with their business to be roaming random threads. Just trying to help you get your answer here. don't understand why you need to be all defensive and worked up about it. Send them a PM and you will get your answer directly from them.

silly me... thinking a company out to make a killing on a product might not want to answer my question that would cause them to not make a profit....

No. Not in code. Just your ability to comprehend the answers that have been given to you because they are not the answers you want to see.
Let me make it simple for you. Ecutek pro cable needed to work with Ecutek software. Software checks to determine if the connected cable was provided by Ecutek or not. No one short of Ecutek is going to be able to tell you exactly what is different. If someone knew then there would be no reason to buy the cable from Ecutek. If you don't like this business practice then don't buy from Ecutek, go standalone as you mentioned above, and stand by your word as a man and be done with this thread. It covers their money and ass if someone decides they wanna use some piece of shit cable from ebay and it messes up their ecu. It also stops other companies from reverse engineering their software/hardware. People shouldnt have to spoon feed you that it doesnt work and justify to you why. Only their cable works with it and thats all there is to it. Either pay the money for it or not. You may as well ask why you can plug your VW ecu into the FR-S and have it work properly. |

All i see here is a guy looking for a fight on the internet, with a lot of posts after claiming to be done.
Ask samsung why they dont let iphone cables work on their phones, or better yet- why apple doesn't make iphone3+4/5 cables backwards compatible. Its all about money, and that's why the companies are still in business. It would be nice if everything were free or dirt cheap- but it aint like that in real life. We live in a capitalist society, and don't count on that changing any time soon. |

And further, if someone here does know how the software detects the cable type, why would they tell anyone on an open forum? Looking to be charged with piracy?
Here's my suggestion; buy a cable and dissect it. maybe something to do with pinouts, or an embedded Pal chip or something. Could be simple to, like a resistor or something though I highly doubt it. Sometimes a cable looks the same but isn't. I have dealt with fixing an unusual Pinball 2000 pinball machine with late 90's Cyrix type CPU inside. Only cable that sincs with a laptop to reflash was a null modem cable, no longer sold as its old tech. Turns out its a pinout thing and moving a ground pin allow a regular serial cable to work. Personally I'll do things legally. However depending on how things are engineered, they can usually be reverse engineered at a cost.

Honestly I have given up on getting a real answer....
It was more of a curiosity question, just so I understood the technologies a little more. oh well I guess ignorance is bliss. |

You genuinely are ungrateful for people *trying* to explain. Go on an online bank site and start a thread on how to hack their ATMs.
