you don't need to! if ya just run through the gears quickly, and settle into 6th
you will be fine!.just make sure your revs are high enough so as to NOT lug the engine,as mentioned! this applies to every manual i have ever driven, and the frs/brz is no exception. |

Once I hit the 1k mile mark I forsee my mileage jumping quite a bit too. The break in takes soooo long! Will probably be done this week though as I'll start my 40 mile a day commuting!

I see your mileage going down. Since you will be able to take it above 4k. The car to me didn't feel broken in until around 5k.

I avg 26.5 on last tank. The computer shows 28.4 right now, because of a little freeway trip I did today. Drifting hurts gas mileage pretty bad. But I am pretty impressed with the mileage I have gotten so far.

I use divide my trip miles by the number gallons of I put in. Reset then repeat...
With the stock Prius Primacy tires I easily average between 30/34miles city/hwy. My "street" set is averaging significantly lower after upgrading to 245/18 Hankook Evo V12 tires. The change in compound, increased width, and tread pattern cost me a few mpgs. I'm now averaging around 26/28mpg city/hwy. It would be worse if I installed stickier and wider tires on here. You can also rule out increased wheel weight. My current 18" wheel combo is lighter than stock. I had the chance to reconfirm this at my last track event. I drove to and from the track in the Prius tires which got me back up to 34mpg. Also, on the track, at near redline every time, I was averaging 25mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocker. I'm 6AT btw! |

Drive a purpose built car with a purpose! I'm with you on this, I feel like I'm not doing the car justice if its not being pushed.

Interesting for me, my mileage has hardly changed since before and after the break-in. Normally fluctuates between 26-28 MPG and that's with me getting on it from time to time. And as others have said, when I'm cruising (over 40 MPH), I'm in 6th gear.

27 mpg 75% city 25% hwy driving. Not bad considering my last car (subaru legacy) got only 21 mpg on average.
I love this car. |

I'll be able to take it above 4k, but I'll also be able to maintain a steady speed again. That's whats really going to save me some gas. Right now I'm all over the range.

26.4 MPG over 2500 miles. Mileage went up as high as 28 during the first 1000 because I was keeping under 4k rpms. Took a big dip to 24.x when I broke through and started revving it, and now it's up and down dependent on how much I'm flooring it. Not too bad, I see it as an improvement over the 24 MPG avg I was getting from commuting in my Lexus.
BTW I use an app for iPhone called Gas Manager, pretty neat analysis functions and charts/graphs etc. Free on App store. And the car computer's mpg is optimistic by over 1 MPG compared to real math.
