Can I lie to my insurance company?
Hi all, so I bought my FRS about 3 months ago. To get the best deal with our insurance, they had limit my car to 8,000 miles a year for $100 a month.
Is there anyway they can find out that I exceed the limit? Can I just lie? How does it work? There's no way that I'm going to stay under 8,000 miles a year for this car. I'm already at 5,400 miles after three months. .

$100 a month for full coverage is a good price, but not with mileage limitations. If you total the car or it gets stolen then recovered, there might be questions.
"well, I used to drive around 8000 miles a year...but this car is so fun to drive!". That's your excuse. You could always call them anonymously and ask if there are any penalties for exceeding the mileage limit. |

If your insurance company finds out you lied they can void your insurance policy. That means they can go back to day one, refund your total premium and not cover you for any thing that might have happened in that period of time.
How can they tell if you lied. If you have an accident one of the things their appraiser/adjuster is required to do when he inspects the damage to your car is record the mileage. So if that information shows you lied to them you could end up not being covered for the accident that just exposed your lie. |

The last thing I would be doing is asking if you can lie to your insurance company on a public forum.

Here's the issue. If you get in an accident in less than a year from now and you have 8,001 miles on your car, they can deny your claim. The mileage you report is obviously an "estimate." No one can tell you exactly how many miles they drive in a year. They may not deny a claim for 8,001, but say 15,000... that's a different story. Surely there's fine print associated with the "How many miles do you drive a year?" question, but it's likely buried deep in some legal document that comes with your policy.

Therefore you can simply state you had no idea or any intentions of putting xxx amount of miles. WIN
