If I stay N/A for 2 more years would there be any consequences of buying an exhaust system with 3" instead of 2.5" piping while I save for the turbo? I hear 3" will increase power regardless of application but I question if that is wrong as many exhaust makers are going with 2.5" for N/A.

3" is going to be louder but if it really doesn't matter too much i picked up 12whp + 5lb/ft 3" headerback on my s2k before i went turbo so i could see this car making a few ponies with the bigger exhaust. drone might be a problem however, not so much with duals though.
i've seen poorly designed 3" systems lose power, most notably on the 350z but other small cars as well lotus elise comes to mind. however a celica with the same motor made power so i wont rule against it. get dyne sheets before you buy is the best option though.

All depends on our HP goal. We (the shop car) are staying with a 2.5" catback on our turbo setup to keep the sound tame. Our goal is the upper 300s and 2.5" system is not a restriction. Sure there will be others making more power but thats not our goal. We set out to make a fast street car that will also be fun on the track.

With that said if you want to go all out and pass us up we can also help with reach that goal no problem

Lol Idk why I thought differently. And yes, I also heard 2.5" is not a restriction. Good. My mind is now set on 2.5"
