. It's either a Touring Coupe or a Sporty Coupe. But anyway, the Scion tC aka Toyota Zelas is the successor to the Toyota Celica. And BTW the chassis code for the tC is ANT-10, whatever that means .

From where?
Typical is engine code, chassis, variant. MR2's over time: AW10, 4AG(Z)E powered, MR2, first SW20, 3SG(T)E/5SFE powered, MR2, second ZZW30, 1ZZFE powered, MR2, third. Edit: Looking into it, Toyota may be dropping the second letter of their current engines and replacing it with 'N' or 'G' for some reason. Closest thing with somewhat detailed info is the Wiki page for the tC-related (via the Avensis) Toyota Wish. First gen Wish ZNE1X 1ZZFE motor, E for the Wish, 1 for the generation, X is a variable number for AWD, seating cap, etc... ANE1X 1AZFSE motor, rest the same as above. Second gen Wish ZGE2X 2ZRFSE or 3ZRFSE motors, E for the Wish, 2 for generation, X is the above variable Confusing between them with the 'Z' designation because the ZZ and ZR motors are quite different (Valvematic on the ZR). So the tC being an ANT10, I will extrapolate/guess that the second gen is an AGT20??? I guess us old-school Toyota guys are going to have to upgrade our knowledges. Damnit...

It's stupid because if they wanted a new Celica, they would be inspired by 30+ years of Celica's. Not AE86's.

Toyota already has the Celica name sitting there ready, no need to throw millions at a new name. No need to push marketing as much, people know Celica, and people know Celica = sporty/performance. They took years to build up that reputation, so why not use it? Not saying you guys are going to get it, but it is genuinely on the table here... |

In this regard the HachiRoku is a much better inspiration since it was RWD till the end but that ended when the line died out. Calling it a Supra would probably just engender hostility since it is neither turbo nor powered by a 6 cylinder. Plus neither name would fit with the Scion naming scheme. I'm thinking that the FR-S could be used across both the Toyota and Scion brands ala MR-S. |

![]() ![]() Fixed it for you. Again nobody is getting it. In the last 5 years nobody from, related too, working with, or in any way associated with Toyota has ever even hinted it will be named Celica. If it was even a remote possibility, there would have been SOME reference too it. Even if it was only in passing something like "Oh yeah and we really liked this about "X" Celica, so we tried/did to incorporate it." No. Not once has anyone except random strangers speculating have suggested Celica or Supra. Toyota has done everything in their power to associate this with the AE86. Quite frankly I would like to know in the face of all this evidence against naming it Celica. What makes you think it's even on the table? I'm actually curious. It just seems to fly in the face of all logic. Again, why strain so hard at every chance to make the AE86 connection to just throw it all away and name it Celica? Naming it Corolla makes more sense than Celica.

![]() Second of all, you do know your USA cars are called different things in the world market? ![]() Third of all, Mr Buttner has said the name Celica hasn't been ruled out, at the FT86II launch. He is Toyota Australia’s senior executive director sale and marketing to you... Quote:
3/4 of the Australian media is calling it the Celica. People know what a Celica is. Like: http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...518-1esvn.html The select few are using the '86' trademark to suggest it's just going to be called '86'. Yeah, you guys most likely just getting FR-S as a name from what I've read. Here, it's still well and truly up in the air. FR-S has never been mentioned here, but you never know... ![]() I'd love HachiRoku as a name (would never happen), but there's a good strong possibility that it will be called just the Toyota 86 here in Australia.

Type r,
I am going against you. They will not be calling this a celica. Just like Nissan had the pulsar then changing styling and price point they decided to rename the car tida. It's too late for them to get back in the pulsar band wagon now. Just like its too late for Toyota to get on the celica bandwagon, they changed too many things for people to draw the conlousion its a celica... Rwd, price point and styling. Toyota Australia have more chance calling it a sprinter! And I hope they do! |

All this debate over a name . . . .
Either you guys are not getting laid, or you are the most dedicated car enthusiasts that there ever were! And I mean that in a nice way.
