I would trade it in. Not sure I would trust how the break in period was from another person
When I bought mine, they had a Red BRZ that a guy with a 'family" bought and then returned it with 1,832 miles on it. (said it just wasn't practical - YA THINK!) They claim they gave him full money back because of demand on BRZ. But I just checked and it is still for sale, and that was back on Nov. 3rd. Doesn't look like they marked it down any. http://www.geraldauto.com/used-inven...&SBprice=clear |

Definitely do not trade-in. Private sale for sure, if you're not in a time-crunch. If you throw up an ad, don't over explain anything. Basic info, an interested person will ask you questions.
Funny, I privately sold my 2011 WRX Limited sedan the same day I purchased my BRZ. I do miss the power, but I do not miss the maintenance, negative stigma, terrible transmission, poor gas mileage and sloppy handling of the WRX. The BRZ is plenty quick for me, and if you care that much about numbers, realize that the BRZ is tested to be barely 1 second slower than the WRX. Also insurance is cheaper for my BRZ and the trunk space for the WRX is compromised by stupid trunk mounts on the sedan. The hatch is nice, but it's 6" shorter than the sedan and I plenty enjoyed the extra 6" of space for hauling items of length. Also, the hatch is noisier since it allows all the sounds to be shared in the cabin, the hatch has nasty-looking quad-tipped exhaust, and the sedan's exhaust is reworked to have more rumble. Just my $0.02 from someone that's owned several turbocharged, "practical" Subaru vehicles in the past. Last edited by chanomatik; 11-26-2012 at 05:47 PM. Reason: Meant "WRX" trunk space being compromised, not BRZ. |

Yes, I ALMOST picked up my buddy's 2010 STI instead of the BRZ because I knew the STI transmission wouldn't fail me. Having owned a 2005 STI previously, I can attest to it's robust nature.
However, in the end, the heaviness of the 3G WRX/STI and the fact that they're still using the same, old EJ25 with more modern tech just made me, personally, want something fresh, new and exciting from Subaru that didn't require my waiting for the new 4G WRX/STI. Why anyone would get a 3G WRX NOW when the new WRX is just around the corner is beyond me. I figure if the new STI is THAT amazing, you can sell your BRZ at that time in order to attain it. Otherwise if you see it and don't like it, there will still be plenty of used 3G WRX to choose from. Just to clarify, I would not waste time with a 3G WRX over an STI. Learn from my mistake, get an STI. |

I'm not really a fan of Subarus in general but I had an Impreza as a rental for a week and I hated the interior. I don't know what it was, but there was some weird thing going on in the distance from the driver's seat to the door. I'm used to being pretty snug against the door and I felt like I was swimming in there. It was freaking me out.

Take it to the dealer, work out a price, then tell them you're going to charge them $5k over that. BAM!
Speaking of walking out, I walked away from the salesman and got pulled in by the manager. Then I walked out on him and drove off the lot. The salesman ran me down and got me back inside with a more reasonable number. The car I traded was a 2010 STi (that's the hatch) and they really wanted it. I do miss the cargo space in that thing. I didn't think it was too loud, even with a muffler delete, but the turbo helps there (displacement, too). Muffler delete on the BRZ was just annoying. I sure don't miss 18mpg tho...$$$

It's common sense. You should expect at least an additional $1500 for a private sale as I cannot imagine them wanting any less profit than that from what they pay you. |

I'd wait for the 2014 WRX redesign. The current model is getting a little long in the tooth.

Depending on your state tax laws, trading it in may help with the tax on the new car. I just traded in my 2011 STi for $28k, which if I sold it outright I would have needed $30k due to the tax benefit of trading it in (you only pay the difference between the traded value and the new car purchase value in sales tax).
