BRZ Trade in Value?

I love my BRZ to death, but I am thinking of trading it in for a WRX hatch.

Took a 2k mile road trip with a buddy this past weekend to the F1 race in Austin in his 11' WRX hatch and it got me thinking.. As much as I love the BRZ, the WRX hatch is a more realistic car for me. AWD is nice to have during the snowy months and there's no denying the WRX has more room for stuff and friends. Not to mention it's MUCH quicker in a straight line.

So has anyone traded in their BRZ/FR-S? I can't really find anything on trade in values since it's such a new car. I am hoping I don't lose too much money. I figure the dealership would be able to sell them pretty quickly.

This would also allow me to sell my 4Runner and consolidate vehicles.

DO NOT trade it in. Sell it privately, and you probably won't lose anything at all the way prices are. A dealer will still try to lowball you regardless of how in demand they are.

This I agree with.

You are right.. That might be an option if dealers keep low-balling. However, I've gotten to know dealer ways.. If it's not a number I can agree with I will simply walk away (the last thing the dealer wants you to do). I wonder if Carmax will buy it for a good price...

I'd wait for the next generation WRX with the FA20 DIT.

Since you plan on trading it for another Subaru, just check with the dealership you bought it from. They probably have at least one person on their BRZ waiting list (unless they have some sitting on the lot, then try a dealer that doesn't) who will consider buying used or someone at the dealership, see if you can strike a deal. If you sell private party and don't own the title it can turn off buyers, you'll probably get the same as trade-in if you go that route *2 cents*

The dealer's not going to give you as good a deal as you will get selling privately, but it sounds like you'll be getting rid of 2 vehicles. In that case, it may be a lot less hassle to trade them both in to the dealer even if you don't get top price for them. You're unlikely to find a single private buyer that will take both of them.

I am curious how you settled on the BRZ in the first place, since space and straight line acceleration seem to be the things swaying you now.

I tried consolidating cars a few years ago and ended up buying an STI hatch. It was supposed to be the best of both worlds (practical, but sporty), but I was never 100% satisfied with it. Now I'm back to having 1 practical car and 1 track/fun car.

You can always do what I did and trade your other car in for a WRX! Best of both worlds.

In this situation the only wise thing to do is sell unless you get an awesome trade offer from your dealer which is unlikely to happen.

There's really no wisdom in turning over a new car within 6 months of owning it (before the calendar year even matches the model year!). I think this is mainly an exercise in minimizing the pain.

Depending on which direction are your 2k miles from Austin, selling privately might not be a good option until spring.
