Dim lights + no reflectors = Bad times. Some people seem really casual about this. There was one guy in another thread who I think has been creamed twice in rear end collisions but still decided to spray his tails (and thus his reflectors also) with tint.

Any decent lawyer will realize with this type of car it is likely to be modified, and some of those modifications might effect safety. Won't take long for them to notice the illegal taillights. That is, assuming you're well enough to be sued after the accident. I've seen some pretty horrible rear enders with fatalities.

As mikeg said, these brakes will probably be damn near invisible in the daytime.

At night? This is already a small, low to the ground, easy to miss car. Throw in a dark color like our black or gray, and the fact the car only has black trim, it can vanish pretty quickly especially if it is wet out.

All in all it puts a lot of faith in your third brake light, which a lot of the same people seem to modify in some ill advised way anyhow.
I agree , but I did a quick mod that will almost guarantee that you'll be seen

LOL nice mod! That would be a definite HEAT score where I live. COPS here don't like flashing red or blue lights unless it's coming from their own cars

2 quick flashes is okay... (As seen on fire engines over here)
But there should be a "cool-down period" where it stops flashing after 2 flashes and/or when you go and hit the brakes 5 seconds later... (Stop and go traffic)...
Even then, it's STILL illegal over here...

In your video, it looks like its just constantly flashing with different patterns... Which is a no-no, cops will be all over that...
It would also be a pain driving behind you in a stop-and-go traffic jam.

It isn't a full strobe, it cycles I'll get a full video soon, I'm a volunteer firefighter here in Texas and I'm aware of the laws here in Texas and the light is 100% legal, I also wired up a toggle to turn it off in stop and go traffic.

As much as some parts of Texan culture like to assert, all states are still subject to federal laws which explicitly dictate that no brake lights may flash under operation.

Quote:
Section S5.5.10 of Federal Motor
Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No.
108, Lamps reflective devices and
associated equipment, establishes the
wiring requirements for lighting
equipment in use, and requires that all
lamps be wired to be steady burning,
unless otherwise stated. All stoplamps
must be steady burning when in use.
Steady means free from change or
variation. This means that they must not
modulate, flash, or vary in size, area,
intensity or appearance.
Save the flashing red lights for the firetrucks and ambulances ok?

If your referring to the smoked tails from japanparts ? Part manufacturer is "COLIN" as I mentioned earlier on in the thread

UPDATE: After taking a closer look at the tails, I noticed TYC stamped on the lower corner of each lamp, so you are correct!

I was thinking of using them for target practice!
Alright guys, it's finally showtime... Got my lights today!

I made a video with stock lights and the aftermarket lights. No night time video yet, but I can tell you that they're plenty bright in the sunshine! Video is uploading to Youtube NOW(Should have a link to it in 30 minutes or so) which offers a decent comparison. I'll update this with a few photos in a minute as well.

I like'em...the lighting style at least...tinted/smoked tails are approaching the "played out" level though IMO

I Tapped that
