I thought the new WRX/XT/LIBERTY GT are running a turbo charged version of the FB20 (found in the current Imperza) not the FA we have.

agree packaging constraints is marketing garabage with a signature on the end of it.

I've seen at least two different in engine bay turbo set ups and when i look under my bonnet i see heaps of space.

i dont neccessarily see Toyota releasing a turbo version because they've stated they already want to slot one sports car above and below the 86 which is why i titled the thread.. SUBARU will release factory turbo.

The car can't sit on the lots as it is. I don't think subaru or toyota are in a hurry to roll out another version.

Being that the vehicle is a joint venture and the manufacting process for the engine/chassis is the same for both BRZ and 86, I see interupting the production flow for Subaru to assemble a seperate turbo variant being a hideously difficult exercise in terms of logistics and still meeting production targets for Toyota, and Subaru.
Just because they have developed a turbo charged version of the base power plant does not make it a simple exercise to whack it in the BRZ.
Also, due to the fact the FA20-T has been produced for the Forester, which has substantially more room in the engine bay and chassis to set up turbo, piping, intercooler makes it s simpler exercise on that model.

By no means am i saying it WON'T happen, but trying to rationalise the difficulties faced in doing so. I would love to see a mass produced turbo FA20 (designed for the ZN6) on the market. The cost of buying a half-cut or just an engine would be become pretty economical in the future for other BRZ/86 owners if this were to happen.

While a lot a people may be waiting for a turbo variant, will it really happen. Look at the mx5. It's had a couple of limited turbo models but it has always stayed NA. I don't think the car needs a turbo. It's got plenty of power about 5000 rpm.

If a guy needs more then he can choose from plenty of aftermarket suppliers. Which is what this car is all about. It's lot less hassle for the factory warranty as well.

I don't think toyota will let it happen... well not at least in the short term... You have to remember Toyota is calling the shots for this project.

Read somewhere that toyota is aiming for a hybrid model for every toyota by 2015. So I would think if the 86 gets a power bump of some sort then they will allow for subie to do the same.

Turbo variant for subie will not come out til at least 2015. If it evens comes out then.

The direct translation of this is "do not stop buying N/A models please, even though there will be a new model with a turbo in the near future"

Apple dont tell you when the next generation ipad is going to come out - they want you to buy the current one! then when the new one comes out and you want that too, youll buy it.

I sure hope none of you guys work in marketing.

That is not a direct translation of anything.

Here are my thoughts (in point form to make it a "presentation" :p)
1/ There is no evidence to support the "there will be a turbo version" hypothesis. Only inference from the turboed FA20 engine.
2/ The rumourweb will not allow facts to get in the way of speculation.
3/ If there is a factory version all the people who said "yeah, I always knew there was going to be one" will be incorrect in their thinking; they did not know but guessed correctly. There are only 2 possibilities; they will release a turbo version or they won't. Making a 50/50 guess correctly isn't very hard.
4/ Both views presented in this thread have merit but we don't know.

For me (and maybe a few others) there is more enjoyment in wringing a car out as opposed to having to back off.
Damn skippy. There's a reason the suspension has seen the most work on my Silvia. What's the point of more power if you can't twist every little bit out as a result?

I tell you what mate, it's a good thing they never made that car. Especially that they never brought it in with say, some popup headlights just outboard from those centre lights. Or I'd have bought it, dropped it on its nose and I'd be uh, "appreciating" the thing every day. Y'know. With lotion and tissues.
