You're gonna need an awful lot of magnet to get 3x stronger than 1" cylinder neodymium, but sure! Granted the magnets are like... what... 15 bucks of the total cost?

Who the hell would pay more than $150 for an ARMREST. Good god. Some of these parts being released for this car are being priced like the damn car is a 370Z or an expensive German car. That's EXACTLY why I got out of my 370Z. I expected Scion stuff to be somewhat cheap.

I'm thinking you skip out on the magnet alltogether for velcro or another "snug" fit.. The magnets would be up to the customer to pay for (i.e. $20 rubber coated neo's)

Under $150. I say this because if it's any more than that, I'd much rather take the money and put it to other modifications other than an arm rest. Considering both hands should be on the wheels ANYWAYS I'd rather work towards intake/exhaust/ etc.

Even if it was my final mod, I don't think I could ever fork up that kind of money for such a small addition to the interior.

I'm thinking the same thing. It's a cheap little sports car, not a Ferrari. But, there are people who are willing throw money at just about ANYTHING...(not this, but some of the stuff you see offered for these cars, jeez)

Well if Scion would build the damn thing it'd be really cheap, b/c of their volume.

For me to make the slidey one that everyone is talking about, I'm looking at probably 150 in parts. No lie.

If you add up all the prices for the individual OEM parts for the car, it would be an astronomical amount. Hell, the wheels retail for $430 a piece. Are the wheels really nearly 7% of the cost of the car? No, but that's what parts go for.

Well fitting parts for a low-volume automobile are going to cost a decent amount because you can't make up for a low margin by expecting a lot of sales.

To tell the truth, I personally don't care about the 'armrest' portion of this. What I really want is a nice cover for the console so that I can store stuff in the console without the items being seen.

Also, I have no use for a cup holder.

If it is as perfect as described and also looks nice and OEM - happy to accept the $500+ price tag (but not more than $700-800 to be reasonable relative to the car price).

$3-500 but hopefully much less. I am not impressed by a single armrest that I've seen thus far. The one you describe sounds very promising if you can deliver. Someone needs to do what it takes to get that horrible cavity in the center console covered up, bottom line I suppose I'm not a reliable source considering I don't even own a BRZ yet, but believe me I am getting one next year and I will be wanting one!!

Like Whaap said .... it should be simple. I'm not sure we need the fancy slide back feature. I would love to see a simple well made armrest that simply fits over the top of the area. Ideally ... magnets would be best. Anything less is going to look CHEAP. I could do without the cup holders. The magnets would need to be attached to the base somehow.

I could even dig something that hinges on the passenger side and when flipped up would allow cup holder access (for those that enjoy liquid refreshments).

Progress report. This look familiar?

I know it's not 100% accurate, but it's enough to fit the part to

I'm curious, how would production actually work with this? Like down to the literal steps, how would you make this item?
