My old cattle and wagon NEVER let me down* - so no need to go buy the latest and greatest as soon as it hits the street.

* (well, unless you count that one time I was fording a river, lost 8 cattle, and I died of dysentery. But besides that, they never let me down...)

I would do the same had I not needed a car this year.

Only thing I would watch out for is a price increase. I remember reading that next year cost is going up for the car in certain markets but that could of just been rumours as well

On NASIOC, SOA Blog stated that the BRZ would remain unchanged for 2 model years, so 2014 will be the same. If you don't have to finance to get your BRZ for 2014MY, then that's extra super cool! Otherwise you just missed out on an awesome vehicle that's worth all the hype, plus more.

Are you joking? This vehicle has one of the largest "problems" sections of any vehicle I have researched. Just about every week we have a new person informing us of how their car broke down and needs thousands of dollars worth of fixes in just a few thousand miles of ownership.

Are we reading the same forum?

From the enthusiast's perspective, it makes sense to release a turbo model or bored out engine easily. But the broader American market is not an enthusiast market. My 2 cent outlook: The BRZ STI will be a Japanese market car (like the Forester STI and Legacy STI) and won't reach the American market, if at all, til the last year or two to clear out inventory of this first generation model run. Parts from the catalog may be available separately, though.

Overwhelming majority of us are not having problems (I'm not seeing 10,000 problem posts every week). The loud/vocal few are.

The first model year incarnation may be the ultimate realization - the cusp - of what the engineers dreamed for this car to be... before committees step in to water it down to be digestible for the masses.

So-called "improvements" over the years may normalize the car for the general public at the expense of raw enjoyment for the enthusiasts. Honda and Toyota have "improved" certain sports cars each year in a generation run by modifying cam profiles to be less aggressive, adding speed governors that were previously not there, increasing the motion of gearshift throws, dumbing down an aggressive suspension setup for safety, making the throttle less responsive, etc.

Just a possible merit of being an early adopter.

It's not a matter of reading the same forum but interpreting the data.

You would best be served by taking a primer course in statistics and studying failure rates. Once you understand the frequency then you can make a better judgment on the success of this model. Much the same way that the manufacturers are calculating it.

Here I'll help you, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

Get a BRZ or quit complaining about something you do not have. -or- stick to forums with which you already have a vehicle. Maybe you ARE on the wrong forum.
