Toyota S800 before AE86

Toyota S800 was before the AE86. It was called, "Yota-Hachi." Between 1965 and 1969, 3131 sports cars were built and not many survived. It had an 800cc boxer engine with rear wheel drive and weighed 1279 ibs.

I came across it by accident and thought there was some parallels, lightweight, RWD, boxer engine. Nothing is new, everything is old again.

Flat twin and twin carb...

Almost everything has been done before in one way or another...
Most people just dont bother looking...

Jowett cars used the formular of lightweight, RWD, boxer engine from 1906 to 1954.
In fact there cars were done as light cars with flat engines for low center of gravity and smoothness.
They did sport cars, Sedans, Vans, trucks.. All with the above.
If only Jowett hadnt been put out of business.. They were going to produce a cheap Light weight fast reliable rwd sports car top speed of approx 115mph.
Only made 3 prototypes. Had fiberglass body. 4spd and overdrive.
Was close to production about 1953.

Imagine what could had been availble now if that had been produced...

Last FR boxer/boxer twin rwd sports car is Toyota S800
But last FR boxer 4 sports car was the Jowett Jupiter.

Neat car, but I'd never want to drive one. Wish they'd bring back fender mounted mirrors, too.

check out the new kia rwd v8 concept. its a little to concepty but its got a cool brittish vibe and some fender mirrors well cameras but still. i assume the fender mirrors went away due to ped impact standards but not having blind spots would be cool

About 300 were built for Okinawa. If any survived, they would be rare.
