Putting a huge engine in this car is as bad as adding a wacky bodykit to the car in my opinion. When the 4U-GSE was chosen/designed for this car then surely putting something taller and heavier creates more problems with the balance of the car? It's OK for drifting, which is more art than motorsport, but the average owner would surely be more interested in strengthened internals for the 4U-GSE or swapping in a similar sized and platform (but more readily tuneable) engine? Is there anyone out there that would seriously consider the 2JZ swap on their BRZ/FRS/GT86?

For drifting you can probably get away with having all that weight up front but I wouldn't really consider it for anything else (street, track, autoX) except drag racing perhaps.

Seems that engine choices for hard core drift cars vary a lot by region...lots of V8s in the US but if you look at what they're up to in Europe, Asia and Japan it's usually JZs, RBs and SRs for the most part, even at the pro levels.

Here in the Middle East contrary to popular myth there's actually not a ton of money being thrown around in the sport. it's very grassrpots. Most guys are just grabbing cheap, clapped out cars from the Jap used car market for a grand or two, welding the diffs and spending another grand or so swapping in very basic RBs and JZs from half cut JDM cars for cheap.

There's literally like 3 guys in the entire regiom with corporate sponsorship who have 'shiny' builds - a Hyundai and a Mustang from Saudi plus Ahmed Al Ameri here in the UAE - but even so they're not Formula D or D1GP level builds because they don't really need to be.

Competitive drifting here is only a few years old so there's not many hugely skilled guys yet. Right now the main goal is talent development - trying to attract the guys you see on Youtube doing burnouts and hooning highways off the streets and into proper competition.

because people use whats readily available and therefore easier to replace when broken (ie NOT FA20 since it just came out).

you can't swing a deat cat without hitting some form of LS motor in the US

and in Japan, they made RB and JZ motors from the late 80s until the early 2000s

V8's weren't popular outside of the US because of fuel economy and engine size tax reasons so they aren't as abundant and thus less used

so it makes sense if those dudes/ladies in the UAE can grab a JDM car for only a couple grand just to pull the motor since its cheap

I'm waiting on a jet-engine powered FRS... that's the REAL rocket bunny kit.

What kind of steering mods does this car have or is the suspension swapped off of a different car?

Orthow(jim) you cant compare this to the r&d of a k series motor for thr aftermarket world...yet. Keep in mind the k series has been out in vehicles for over 10 years. EJ motors have always thrived on boost so it will be interesting to see how far the aftermarket takes this engine.

Plus this is a drift car. You need torque, a 2.0 vs a stroker 2jz. No comparison obviously. .

I come from the Honda world. I could easily throw a J35(3.5L V6) into my Civic and make 400 n/a horsepower OR I could spend some money on the latest in technology and turn my 2.4L 4cyl into a 2.7L and make 400 n/a. In the Honda world the latter is 100x's more impressive due to displacement. I would have thought that same sentiment would hold true for these little 4cyl Toyota engines.

And given that this was built with A-rabbbb Money (say it with Busta Rhymes voice lol) I would have expected a crazy amount of money thrown into R&D for this project but clearly this is not the case. Seriously with the level of development and money over there they should have put a v12 in an FRS already! Ok maybe not that hardcore but these are the people who are famous for leaving Ferrari's on the side of the road when they run out of gas(Internet told me so - don't hate).
easily 400NA? i'd like to see that...

I would also like to see a v6 put out 400 NA horsepower that's street legal and you won't need earplugs to drive around in to hit that power. Hell, I want to see a bored out 2.7L 4 banger put out 400 HP even more. Please tell us how to even get 300hp out of an N/A 4 banger and you don't have to give us all the secrets.
