It would be great if we have our local CO members go out to the dealer and check the car out for us. You know, to give it the once over for scratches, options, make sure the 'do not test drive', 'sold' signs are on the car, take some pictures, meet the shipper, get his details and watch the truck leave e.g. There has to be some value in this.

Was anyone told to give a deposit between $1,000-$2,000?

Great idea, but FWIW I can vouch for Heuberger Motors, they took care of all that for me and the car was perfect. If you buy from them they'll take care of you. I'm sure others here can say the same about other dealers in the area too.

I paid 2000 deposit by credit card. Others paid 1000 it's somewhat negotiable.

Great, i'll be keeping an eye on their inventory!

What about insurance during the shipping? Did you get a special kind?

Nope I just put the car on my policy once it was bought. The carrier has insurance should anything happen in transit.

I was working with Hueberger for a bit before I decided to go with a Limited that Mike Shaw has coming in. They asked and charged $500 on my CC.

Now I'm contemplating Opti-guard or coating the car right after I get it.

I think my CO dealer asked for a $500 deposit, I give them my card number and they don't even bother to charge because we immediate close the deal with paperwork coming.

Talking about deposit, after serveral emails and phone call but no check show up in the mail, I walk in to my CA dealer and ask for return that face to face. My sales guy there still have NO idea when my June order will arrive and THANKS me with a big hand shake because they will get a car soon to sell it with MSRP + $4k ( is what they are going for...and sold in 4 hours they claim)

More people should read this thread....

It's outrageous. I almost decided to go for the frs instead. Then I stumbled onto this thread!

Technically, you already ownED the car when they move on the truck, therefore make sure your own insurance started. My policy will covered the car purchased while in transit and double check with your insurance company.

As for the trucking company coverage, I talked to the rep in trucking company and it is only covering truck driver's fault. He said for example a chain dropped on the car and damaged...other then that, storm, hail, rock chip, etc will be on your own coverage.

Yeah when I was calling around to shipping companies one of them broke down the insurance pretty well, they cover any issues resulting from the transportation (i.e. loading, offloading, truck issues), but your insurance would cover "acts of god" such as hail and other things that would be normal for your insurance to cover when it is parked somewhere.

One other important thing to ask the shipper about is how they handle claims of damage, i.e. is it through them or the trucker...

For me it seemed that the company the dealer had worked well with in the past actually was pretty good on all my questions, but I ended up not having to buy/ship when a BRZ became available locally.

I was able to get my $500 deposit back pretty easy within a few days.

LOL, I just looked at my CU account and it shows the time/interest is already ticking on my loan. And I thought it starts when their draft gets cashed.

So essentially since yesterday, I'm already paying for a car that I may not be able to sit in for possible another few weeks. I did the full OTD amount but thankfully it's only 1.49% so it only hurts a tiny bit. Now, I will just need to find a transporter myself instead of waiting on the dealer's preferred trucker.
