I checked, i couldn't find it before purchasing, but figured i needed the cable anyway.

I'm curious as to how this cable is different from the 350$ ecutek cable.... hmm...

Both cables probably cost less than $30.00 to manufacture. I would think that both are simply usb to serial converters with an OBDII interface chip and a security chip of some type. I doubt they're interchangeable though. With ECUTek you're paying for the R&D that went into the software as well as the hardware. These people do have to make a living for themselves as well as their staff.

Proprietary hardware is another revenue stream for businesses. Any time someone loses one, breaks one, or has one stolen... It's free money, whereas the license is forever.

The accounting department at ECUTek doesn't care where the money comes from. As long as they show profits at the end of the year and everyone goes home paid you can say any one thing they sell is for whatever you like. They're in business to make money. Personally I probably won't even be buying their software or hardware - due to cost. However I can understand why it's so expensive.

I haven't played with a tech stream before - but if it has any functions that you need let me know and I'll see if the EcuTek guys can add it to their ProECU Software

It came with my OBD2 cable and I've been able to use it to change some of the dealer settings like headlight auto-off delay time, disable the auto-off for rear defroster, adjust the buzzer volume from the remote, disable passenger side seatbelt warning buzzer. You can also disable DRL, adjust the sensitivity of the auto headlights to come on when it's darker or lighter out.
I REALLY want to disable my DRL. I totally hate that functionality. I assume dealers won't do this if you ask politely to have it disabled.

They should be able to do it if you ask them to the next time you bring it in for service, unless there is a local law that prevents them from doing so.

Which iphone app did you have in mind?
