I hate the stuff... lol. Buddy of mine quick detailed one of my old wrx's waaaay back in 05 at a local autox event and threw some kind of tireshine/dressing on the wheels. Long story short, 1st hard turn in I under steered for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays.

I use this as well. Doesn't seem to last as long on my star specs vs the OEM tires. I wash my car every other week so it doesn't get too bad.

As mentioned earlier, 303 aerospace protectant works well. Doesn't make the tires super shiny, gives them a black satin look and you can use it on all of the black plastics on the exterior when they start fading.

Tire shine is the final step, the thing that makes the wash complete.

If you buy a quality tire shine it will last a decent time, even through some rain.

I formed my washing habits long before these additional detailing products came on the market. As a result I've never used any tire dressing. I certainly like clean tires but I really have no opinion, pro or con for tire dressing.

Duplicolor makes a matte tire dressing that claims to last through several washes/rain. I'm gonna try it tomorrow maybe.

I wash my car every 3 or 4 days. I couldn't imagine leaving it dirty for 3 weeks. I use over the counter tire wet. If only last for a couple of days but it only takes 4 or 5 minutes to put some back on.

Optimum opti bond/tire shine is the only tire protectant out there that's made with the same protectant used at the manufacture when the tire was produced. If your looking for longer durability car pro perl or tuff shine's permanent tire shine. Btw it's not permanent even though it says that on the bottle..

LOL looks like OP IS the only one!

If this was my winter beater car - yes, I would probably avoid tire shine. But, this car is far from anyone's beater at least from what I have gathered from the users on this forum. That being said - I could never wash my DD and skip the tires. Hell, when I am lazy I JUST clean the tire/rims and glass and fake it like I cleaned the entire car.

Also, using your State as an excuse as to why you are lazy isn't going to cut it lol. Believe it or not we all live in areas with crappy dirty roads, some live in dessert areas, others in heavily wooded areas and everyone dealing with their own version of environmental issues screwing up an otherwise clean car. Bottom Line - invest in proper tire detailer and your concerns will be covered.

First it's because I never bought the products and even though I love that wet/slick look of a clean tire. It just goes away after a day of driving on nyc roads - not even worth the effort.

I wash my car every few weeks, but never shined my tires. I kinda just scrub as I clean the wheels. Am I the only lazy bum out there to skip this part?
I live in NYC and usually apply Adams vrt dressing to the tires everytime I do a wash, it usually lasts for a good week before I notice it begin to fade.
It also takes me less than 5 minutes to apply, and if im in the habit of washing the car, I might as well apply it.

Here'a trick I used way back in the day. Kiwi black shoe polish paste. Wiped it on then buffed it off just like you were doing your shoes. I was almost tempted to try it today. If I remember right it worked great and lasted a long time. This was back before anyone had even thought about detailing their tires with a dressing, probably because no one made a dressing. Showing my age .
