I'm with you man! Its about time manufacturers started to incorporate F1 tech into lower priced cars. Yeah its on some hybrids, but most of those are $50k+ vehicles since the technology is still growing. With Obama in office again and his push for green tech, maybe this will push into the $30-40k range sooner than we think.
Sidenote - lets just hope Vettel gets a triple crown this year. Props to A. Newey and C. Horner who supply such a great car going thru the "twiddly bits."

Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS)
Basically, when you hit the brakes the kinetic energy is captured and then stored in a battery. Kind of like a Prius. The difference is that instead of releasing that energy slowly to assist fuel economy it is released more quickly so that it is more like boost. |

I thought we had been anticipating something like this for quite a while now...

I'm excited to see how it is implemented. I have a Prius, and the tech used is super interesting. I'd love to have the other side of the coin beside it in the garage.

I have no idea. There is nothing currently on the road that uses it so there is no one with any experience modifying it. There is always a way but it would be uncharted territory. I am just going to go with the AVO turbo kit and call it a day.

The biggest thing that kills me about the hybrids and electrics is their lack of sensation. That Porsche 918 hybrid is a great example. He was running it in "Silent Mode" and he was just driving, then turned on "Race Mode" and you knew he was blasting in a sports car. I love the smell of a badass race car. I love the sound of internal combustion. I love the rumble and vibration of a powerful engine. Electrics will give you a little whine and away you go. I respect it for it's efficiency and acknowledge it can perform. But I want my race car to be a race car. Not a remote control toy. |
