My paranoia is now going to force me to buy a dash cam. This sort of behavior is simply sonofabitchery.

Dashcams are great as long are you're not in the wrong.
I'm thinking of getting one myself.

I agree with this. Send a copy of the Vid and ask them if this is appropriate dealer service behavior?

If they say yes, then you are safe to post the vid with their blessing. If they say no, then you are free to ask them what they plan to do about it?

I will actually mention that this vid exist and is roaming the internet when I take my car in for service.

Was it said the car was in the break in period still? Didn't read that must have missed it.

All the tech has to say is that he was testing to see if the sound or whatever the issue was could be reproduced.

Real life isn't like television dramas... you need proof of some type of damage. Even if someone tore down his engine block and found damage, who isn't to say it was the original driver that created the damage before it even came into the dealer.

Good luck! IMO ask for fluid changes and never take your car to the dealer again

and post the video so we can flame them

All the tech has to do is eat a fist sandwich too. You don't have to burn peoples tires up testing the car. You can accelerate briskly without tearing thousands of miles off someones tires.

Based on what was said, the tech needs his ass kicked pronto, then fired.

I guess I'm on the camp that thinks some of you are WAY overreacting. Should he report it? Yes. It should be known to the dealership that an employee is riding a customer car a bit hard. Should you demand a new car? A free bodykit? LOL. No. Maybe a free oil change. There's a redline for a reason. The car is meant to be driven to it. The fuel pump was just replaced and he certainly verified that the install worked. Whoopdeedoo.

We aren't driving exotic cars people. it's an econobox.

It matters not. It is wrong to mistreat a customer car, period. It has nothing to do with the value or type of the car. It has to do with being responsible and considerate and ethical and legal and not-a-total-douchebag.

I would say you're UNDER-reacting. That is absolutely awful, and whoever did that MUST DIE!

Okay, now I'm over-reacting. But I would think that diagnosing a CEL would involve using on-board diagnostics and actual under-hood time. Looks like this guy was just trying to mess around with someone else's property. Take the video to the place you had your car serviced, and complain to the manager and say you want your money back. That is absolutely ridiculous. We live in such a ME-ME-ME society today and don't respect other people's property. It's about time we bucked that trend.
