It's already been answered, you should read through the thread.

But to the OP, I would complain. I'd be furious if they were joyridiing/driving my car hard after I just bought it. Good luck!

I mean the kid needs to be taught a lesson. All dealerships need to enforce these things much harder. I don't think though that the kid needs to be ruined because of this experience. If you sue, do everything to the dealership and then let them handle the moron.

I'm just curious and maybe one of the other threads already covered this. Where was the dash cam located? It had to be located behind the driver to allow sight of the tack. Audio included in video?

On topic .... talk directly to the owner or CEO of the dealership. You should get something in return.

As much as I'm tempted to keep the car out of the lease, if they're going to abuse it when I take it to them, they can keep it and deal with whatever they broke.

I've leased most of my cars.

1. you can take your FR-S to ANY Toyota dealership for maintenance ... not just the one you leased the car from.

2. at the end of the lease ... the car is inspected for wear and tear BEYOND normal wear and tear. You are responsible for this additional wear and tear. If the dealership caused a potential problem ... it should be noted and documented when the car is turned in.

3. If you lease another Toyota/Scion product from ANY Toyota dealership .... many times... they will overlook any additional wear and tear or excess mileage on the car.

Our dash cam is a Mio Driving Recorder, 720p, mounted directly below the rearview mirror (so, if the tech didn't see it, then he surely didn't check his mirrors either!). No GPS or anything too fancy, and it unfortunately shuts down as soon as the ignition is turned off, but it does the job and has a nice wide angle. It breaks up the video into 3:30 increments for easier reviewing.
Behind the rearview mirror.

I've been a Tech and now Service manager for the last 7 years. Cars need to be driven a decent amount to make sure your repairs are completed properly and no check engine light returns, ie. that usually means driving the car until most/all of the monitors are complete and that can take 3 miles, 10 miles, sometimes 50 miles.

To make sure monitors pass you do have to drive a drive cycle once or twice, and usually easiest to get monitors like cat/o2/misfire to pass by driving the car a little harder than "normal"

Now don't get me wrong, what it sounds like what the tech did in the video is way over the top and as a customer I would also be extremely upset and I would not only complain to toyota/scion usa headquarters.

But At least give them the chance to right the wrong, I would not necessarily ask for the tech to be fired, but at least let it be known that you will not return to the dealership unless it is assured he will not be the one who works on it again. Dealerships are all about customer service, they will usually go above and beyond to fix things with you, make your demands known and see what happens, if your not happy with the results don't accept what they give you and I would defiantly take it to the next level (I would take the video to a local news station and let them do a special on it.)

Just ordered my dash cam! There really are a ton of them out there, took me an hour to settle on one. Maybe we need a thread to review/recommend these!

This is my primary worry with taking my car in for service, especially with something that shouts "Drive me!!" like this.

Don't think you will get anything out of it unless you have the tech getting and driving the car. They could just say it was you doing it.

It's kind of hard to make out in the first picture, but as I said, the device is below the mirror, not hidden behind it. (The Scion-to-Sema banner is at the same height as the rearview mirror) Also, you can see that this type of device has a decently sized screen that faces the driver. The screen is on and very bright by default, showing that it's recording. There was no intention to hide the device and record video secretly. The driver should be very aware it's there and what it's doing. I get that there are a lot of dashcams which are very low profile, looking like a radar detector, and discreet. Ours is certainly not one of these.
