Would be interesting to conduct a survey and see how many car thieves can drive manual. My bet is that it's higher than average, but that's a low bar to clear since last I heard only 15% of Americans can drive manual.
Let's get a survey started. Put me down for MT experienced.

Heh... don't think we could get accurate numbers by surveying people on this site, even if we got all of them. Somebody like AAA or NHTSA... someone with access to millions of drivers, across all interests and fields... would have to conduct the survey.

Yeah, agreed, vandalism to the car. Met someone through work who has one and he parked his BRZ on the street overnight it was keyed and egged. Weird.

My friend had his regular late 90s Civic stolen 3x in 2 years. The police recovered it each time.

My other friend had a late 90's Si - which never was fully stolen, but had multiple break ins and they stole the dash cluster (!), seats, and some other unique Si parts.

Not sure the twins will be much of a target due to a high % of thefts are for financial gains - ie, chop shops. The car has some nice parts, but Im not sure what else they are compatible with. Maybe as production numbers increase, there will be a market for used parts.

Call the police but not much they can do because I couldn't get a plate number and the view from the security camera was blocked by the cover to the pumps. Anyways, police tell me they sit out at the end of the lot and wait for customers to walk in and then go check to see if the keys are left inside...

It's a bad habit I just got out of leaving my keys in the car.. I worked at a secured site and always left my keys in the car so my pockets wouldn't be full of work keys and car keys.. So usually getting gas or running into a store for a soda or what ever I never brought my keys with me.. From now on keys with me every where and doors lock if I'm walking away from the car.. My dumb ass didn't have a lock on the cell and seek droid failed to work.. So I spent the 400 to get a new RAZR HD and 4 hours setting it up and changing passwords to every account on that phone
shit happens! but i always thought just the beautiful people lived in cali!
still "naive" at my age! ohhh! well! with this car? lock the f**er up,and chain it to a building if ya can!

car will definitely get "chopped" up for parts, sooner,or later! if the a**holes want it,they'll winch it on to a "low boy" and drive away with the alarm screamin' won't matter! watch the f**er like a hawk wherever you travel is the best advice!

I believe the poster said this happened in Barstow. If you think that Barstow is where we keep the beautiful people I suspect you've never been there.

Slightly OT but around 2 weeks ago my brother's house was robbed while they were asleep with the alarm off. They found the keys to and stole a 2011 BMW 550 and a 2012 Land Rover Sport. Also leather jackets and a briefcase with my brother's credit cards.

That's a great financial gain for 2 criminals. Thank goodness there was no confrontation or violence.

I have heard sometimes body shops buy written off luxury cars to repair and somehow those written off VIN#'s end up on cars that were actually stolen. Otherwise luxury stolen vehicles go into containers overseas, so they say.
