Exactly. ROLLED, not driven. You can break into the car, sure. But actually getting it to start and drive is another story. An STi is a goldmine for parts because you can anonymously throw the engine and stuff online for sale and Impreza/WRX guys will buy the parts to swap.

Would be interesting to conduct a survey and see how many car thieves can drive manual. My bet is that it's higher than average, but that's a low bar to clear since last I heard only 15% of Americans can drive manual.
There isn't a full blown study on it, but there have been specific incidents that have been written about where that was the case.

Example:

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/27/c...e-from-victim/

So, it's definitely happened at least once.

If I were wanting to steal a car I think I could pick one less conspicuous than one of the twins.

Ding, ding, ding. You'd have to be an idiot to steal a car that is so uncommon and draws so much attention. On top of that, the market for aftermarket parts is almost non-existent because they're almost all still under warranty.

Surprisingly not true. BMW is finally having a recall for the theft problems that have plagued all their smart key cars made since 2007.

Just a hunch, but I'm convinced my car was stolen almost 10 years ago by some skinny punks. And they did know how to drive stick. None of that electronic bullshit will prevent them from taking your car if they want it.

Funny... A few days ago I was filling up.. Ran inside to get a soda.. Look over and see some kid/young adult in my car.. As I run out he jumps in a blue Honda accord and take off.. I get to my car and the punk stole my phone and charger.. Call the police but not much they can do because I couldn't get a plate number and the view from the security camera was blocked by the cover to the pumps. Anyways, police tell me they sit out at the end of the lot and wait for customers to walk in and then go check to see if the keys are left inside...

It's a bad habit I just got out of leaving my keys in the car.. I worked at a secured site and always left my keys in the car so my pockets wouldn't be full of work keys and car keys.. So usually getting gas or running into a store for a soda or what ever I never brought my keys with me.. From now on keys with me every where and doors lock if I'm walking away from the car.. My dumb ass didn't have a lock on the cell and seek droid failed to work.. So I spent the 400 to get a new RAZR HD and 4 hours setting it up and changing passwords to every account on that phone

I don't think that any thieves want to steal the car yet because of the chance that a cel will pop up and make the car go into limp mode...

....making a quick getaway on half power is no bueno

In my first week on owning it, I was at a friends house (nice housing development)
didn't lock it for the night and had my iPod and north face jacket stolen (-_-)
That was my favorite jacket!

The twins are so light you could just get a bunch of guys to lift 'em onto a trailer I'm told things like that happened for real with the original mini, sometimes it was done as a prank by the owner's friends

Because you are way smarter than this kid around here who lowered himself on a rope into a dealership and drove off in a yellow Gallardo. Then he hid it for months in a storage locker but couldn't resist bragging about his exploits at his high school. He's been keeping Bay Area news entertaining for over a year now
