The valve is there as a safety precaution in case the system gets blocked, that is the only time it would operate and then open to vent the crankcase breather to the atmosphere. Mine has been on for almost 40,000km and the relief valve operates freely, I check it but has never opened because there is no oil mist where it would vent. |

I dont know if everyone on this sub forum has seen it on the forced induction forum but we designed ours for NA and forced induction apps. It also comes in 2 different mounting positions depending on your setup:

Here is the full Radium Catch can DIY including plenty of technical info:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21079 I don't want to turn that thread into an argument or debate. But I wanted to finally jump into this thread to raise some questions. 1. The D3PE can looks amazing for those who run FI setups and the battery mounting option is a near perfect location. My only concern is venting into the atmosphere, and really it's not much of a big deal if you are running FI and want to keep your IC clean. Really like the can, be nice to see it powder coated black. Would like to see a closed system with baffles. Using the Radium with the Exige intercooler, I never had any oil build up on the IC pipes or inter cooler. But this can is a spin on that completely eliminating any risk of oil or contaminants getting in. 2. The ProVent seems so overly engineered for the FR-S/BRZ and then you have to replace the oil separator which means you have extra cost in maintenance. 3. Saikoumichi probably the best bang for the buck. My only complaint is the one piece design you have to rely on the drain valve which can make for less flexible mounting options or if the valve fails you get leaks. 4. Crawford, I just have so many questions... Where is tech data on internal design? Any cross section images? Why would you want the oil blowby back into the block whats the advantage of that aside from not having to drain the can? Flow testing? Their website says, "Results not Rumors" that almost sounds like snake oil, no offense and for $319 I want more information than just, "Trust Us" The mounting location is also awkword. 5. Moroso - Just a generic catch can. Cheap option for sure. Needs a better mounting location. 6. There has always been talk of mounting the can on the engine, so that can and PCV lines are subject to the same engine vibration. Mounting the can on a fixed location does not allow the can and lines to move with the engine. I have found no proof one way or another, but always believed that the can and lines should also remain on the motor. 7. Less is more. The more ports, seals, valves make a can more prone to potential vacuum leaks. Discuss? Last edited by Dezoris; 10-31-2012 at 12:52 AM. |

We will never release a closed system due to the fact that it is not the best way to do it. From all our racing experience this is best way based on our data we have collected including pressure readings from the block via a map sensor on Pcv line.
As for color we can't offer powdercoating on our products that have AN fittings, this is due to the fact that powder coating actually adds a thickness when applied, we do offer some other catch cans anodized black as that process the color sinks into the metal and dosent add a thickness. We didn't offer this since it would raise the cost but if say 5 people got together and ordered at the same time I can do it for a little extra. Our can also has provisions for a drain back if the customer wants to weld a bung on the oil pan to eliminate the draining that is needed every so often. But in reality this is not really needed. And I'll go ahead and answer your question about the Crawford can, the drain back is purely so you don't have to drain it. |
