BMW M3: two banks of cylinders, two pipes for a while combine into one muffler, 4 tips
Lexus IF: two banks of cylinders, sometimes two pipes, sometimes one, two mufflers, 4 tips.

Conclusion: They're both faking it, but it's no surprise since they're both mass-market production cars.

FWIW, the Lexus appears to have some underbody aero cladding, whereas the BMW definitely has none.

Thank you. I don't see what the issue is. Many others hace done it for decades, yet it's only a problem cause Toyota/Lexus does it? Fuck that.

Take up the issue with Ferrari, Lambo, Audi, Bugatti, BMW. They all have been guilty of the similar crimes.

Shit like this has been done FOREVER

If you are forking over that kind of money you wont piss and moan to upgrade to a nice after-market exhaust. OEM exhausts will always leave a little unrealized potential to be gained anyway.

Jesus christ, the pic I posted is the complete IS F exhause system, do you not see the 4 very real exits (2 each muffler)?

Cars 2-4x as expensive have done this multiple times before, and nobody had an issue till Toyota/Lexus did it. Fukin 'ell mate.....

I really hope the FR-S doesn't have quad exhaust tips, dual at the very most. The idea of splitting the exhaust pipes once they are condensed down to 1 just seems pointless. If there are two exhaust manifold exits, then send two pipes to the ass of the car to their own mufflers and exits. Going from 2, down to 1, back up to 2, and each of those split again to 4 is pointless and a waste of money.

Send two pipes all the way back, or just have a single center exit. Why four?

Huh? Even an S2000CR wasn't 40k. I paid 31k for my new S2K back in 2006. Unless you are in Canada maybe? (no idea on pricing there).

It's all marketing. People have this belief that more exhaust tips = more power.

Stupid, but many people tend to love having multiple exhaust tips.

As long as the FR-S does not have a center exit exhaust I don't care if there are one, two, or four tips.

I think the issue is with the fake exhaust tips not the exhaust pans with real tips.

Why is it a problem exactly? It's not as if they have one real tip and 4 fake tips.

Would you rather them be attached and tear the bumper off or melt it?

I don't hear anyone criticizing Ferrari ($200k California)

Audi ($120-$200k R8)

Lamborghini ($400k Murcielago)

or Bugatti for that matter (yes... THAT Bugatti.. the $1M Veyron)

Just to put into perspective the ridiculous argument that people who chose to beat Toyota/Lexus into a corner make.

I don't know about you, but I'm not in the market for a >$100k car. So what they do with their exhausts don't concern me. $30,000 Mustang GT's get it right. Two pipes all the way back to two mufflers exiting two tips.
